Fiorentina manager won’t block Pazzini’s West Ham move – if they’re interested

Fiorentina manager Cesare Prandelli has said that he won’t stand in the way of striker Giampaolo Pazzini moving to West Ham if the opportunity arose.

The 24-year old Pazzini has recently been linked with West Ham, and while Prandelli would like him to stay, he knows there’s only so much he can do about it. ‘It is the players who decide their own future. If Pazzini wants to go to West Ham, we would do something about it but at the moment there’s nothing.’

However, West Ham are trying to separate themselves from any Pazzini speculation, and there may well be a good reason why.

Pazzini hasn’t really had a major breakthrough at Fiorentina since moving to the club in January 2005. He spent much of his first couple of full seasons as a part-time starter, and while he was a regular in the side last season after the departure of Luca Toni to Bayern Munich, the arrival of Alberto Gilardino in the summer has seen Pazzini make only three starts and score one goal thus far.

He is only 24 though, so I’d like to think that there’s still a lot of promise yet. Whether or not West Ham is his next destination remains to be seen, but if he does come to Upton Park, Craig Bellamy’s sale to Celtic could make way for his move to the Premier League.
