It doesn't help that the Vidic incident was nowhere near a red card. Definite yellow, not at all a red.

Guy, I'm neither English nor in England and I have documented my objections to this charade ad nauseum on this site but you just don't get it.

Hmmm... well I can at least claim your respect as I do recognise the names of all of the teams and if you care to look at page 959 of my Almanack of World Football 2009, you can find the line ups and match details from from the O-League final which saw Waitakere United qualify. Okay... so the Club World Championship final may not keep you on the edge of your seat in anticipation, but then I have to say that there hasn't been a single Premiership game this season that has either. The Club World Cup may not be the most appealing tournament in world football but it is the inherent arrogance of English fans towards it that I find hard to take. If fans elsewhere are going to take us seriously we have to stop being so condescending towards them. Football is played and enjoyed all over the world - not just in the top European leagues. To assume that a football fan in Egypt, for instance, is going to support Man Utd ahead of a local team such as Al Ahly or Zamalek, is just plain wrong. We must start being more international in our outlook in England if we ever want to regain the respect of fans around the world, respect that we once had as the inventors of the game. First up would be to give the Club World Cup a chance, and see it for what it is - an exhibition tournament that has its origins in the Intercontinental Cup started in 1960. That's 48 years of history. Read up about it. It's actually been quite eventful

Good point Steve, I hadn't uncovered that bit. But what's 5M if ultimately it causes you to fail in the PL or CL because of fixture pile-up? Much more money involved there!

I don't care about the gold shirt but I'm guessing the money is a decent attraction.

BD: Great artilce, and not a bad payoff for Man U for only two games. The winning team also receives a special gold shirt crest from FIFA to wear next year. Please see the AC Milan kit for an example.

"The winners will take away USD 5 million, the losing finalists USD 4 million, the third-placed team USD 2.5 million, the fourth-placed team USD 2 million, the fifth-placed team USD 1.5 million (USD 500,000 more than last year), the sixth-placed team USD 1 million and the seventh-placed team USD 500,000."
