I'm a little new to EPL and prefer to watch La Liga and/or Serie A. I'm not exactly sure why Wenger is rated so highly as a manager??? Yes, he has won one or two titles, but over the coarse of 14 yrs...to me that does not make one a "legend". People praise him for the style of play, which is what every team in Spain play BTW, but it really only stands out because nobody else in the EPL plays in this manner. If the manager of any of the top teams decided that they would play a different style in to more of a Spanish or Brazilian one would we then talk about them as a "legend" with no regard to actually being hugely successful? If anything, he does a decent job of taking players that aren't all that good and making them look better...proven by the simple fact that once they move on they flop.

Anyway, enough ranting...Arsenal need to make a bunch of changes if they are going to be successful.

Im an arsenal fan and even though man u don't play real football they win everything and thats the point of football right? Wenger is a fellow that really appreciates football, and he belives in the "beautiful game" but he needs to win again. Arsenal can't be 6 years w/out winning anything!

Hm, yes, Lollie, van Persie is definitely one of the best players in the world...

Good article. My only point of issue would be over Manchester United's 'playing ability'. Character is important, yes, but barring Arsenal, Barcelona and possibly another club or two that I'm forgetting, United play the most beautiful football in Europe. Berbatov, Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney, Scholes, Anderson, Nani, Carrick, Giggs, and the list goes on: these are not just fighters, these are real flair players with real skill. And whilst Berbatov, Ronaldo and Giggs may have character, they're not exactly fighters, especially the first two. I know exactly the point you are trying to make, especially looking at our success last year, largely based around Rooney, Tevez, Anderson, Hargreaves and (in the Champions League) Park harrying and fighting til they dropped. But the reason United were so successful is that they managed to combine this with beautiful football, or at least they were able to employ either tactic when it suited them. Hence, at the Nou Camp, they just fought, but in the final against Chelsea, for the first half at least, they played some great stuff and should have been 3 up by half time. This flexibility is the hall-mark of a great team: Arsenal only have one half of it so far.

You meant '....have a lot of ground to make up on Chelsea & Liverpool' right?

Btw i agree with BD Condell. Wenger seems to be losing his mind & from where i'm sitting he just needs to tinker with the team a little to make it an awesome powerhouse once again. Positive first step is to remove Gallas as captain & sell him either in January or next year & bring back Senderos.

If you look at the big picture, Wenger is one of the greatest manager's ever. He gives his players all the confidence the need and the style of footbal, wheter they win or lose, is wonderfull to look at. Van Persie was a loose gun when he was playing at Feyenoord, but look at him now. One of the greatest players in the world! Move over Emirates stadium, name it after the best manager Arsenal ever had. Hello, Velodrome Wenger!!

Agree totally but I am on record here as worrying that Wenger may be in the process of unravelling all the good he has done at Arsenal, much as I admire the guy. If it ends up as 7 years of plenty followed by 7 years of famine where will Wenger (if he survives) stand on the scale of great managers?

Once again I say: Get over your obsession Arsene!
