False Reports of Another Takeover At Newcastle

Written by Subhankar Mondal. Tagged: Newcastle United

Newcastle United were taken over by Mike Ashley just six months back for a staggering £170m but that doesn’t imply that that the Tyneside club cannot be the target of another takeover bids. The news is that an unknown and mysterious looking Singapore consortium is planning to launch a whooping £200 million bid for English Premier League club.

Newcastle have often been discerned as the club with lots of potential. They have one of the most loyal and noisiest fans in the land and there are many football commentators who believe that a proper source of fund and concrete structure would lift the club out the modesty that it is swimming at the moment. Although the local retail sports magnet Mike Ashley’s takeover hasn’t been able to alter the situation much in terms of results, it has given a lease of hope to the Geordies.

Whether this reported takeover bid goes on air or not, the sword will be lingering by a thread of Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce. Big Sam’s arrival in the summer from Bolton Wanderers was anticipated to be the first step in the club’s recovery of former glory but the proceedings so far in the Premiership have not been according to plans.

Newcastle are struggling in 10th and although midweek’s draw with Arsenal and Saturday’s 2-1 win over Birmingham City have done much to ease Big Sam’s tensions, a heck lot of improvement needs to be done. He is already being circulated in the English press as the next Premiership manager to lose his job and should the Singapore consortium indeed be able to wrestle power from Ashley, then doubts on Allardyce’s managerial post at Newcastle would become intense.

In all likelihood, these are just rumours and nothing will come of it. However, the speculation surrounding Newcastle will not help the team, and it will only fuel the vitriolic attitude of some sections of the press towards Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce.

  1. Only £30 million more? - After spending in the summer and reportedly taking £47 million off the clubs debt?

Means Mr Ashley would be losing on the deal.
He seems to be enjoying life in Newcastle.
Wearing the shirt and going to nightclubs.

Can’t see this happening at this price.

  2. Agree with Geoff, this is truly ridiculous and the biggest nonsense in football of the week!

Mike is enjoying his life as a Toon Army and yes he sees the big potentials from our club and he will not let it out of his grab very soon :)

  3. “Wrestle power” from Mike Ashley? Don’t think that’s right. Mike A couldn’t be bought out unless he wanted to be. And I don’t believe for a second he will sell. He and Chris Mort (see important interview today in Sunday Sun) seem like a very committed pair. Yes, there may be interest from a Singapore consortium. It doesn’t mean for one second that’ll translate into a deal.
