Fabregas - on Arsenal, Barcelona and friends
For the record, I don’t think Fabregas will be headed to Barcelona next summer or that he ‘desperately’ wants the move.
It’s not just because he owes Arsenal and Wenger, but also because he is more likely to suffer Henry’s fate at Camp Nou than he is to be the missing link for Barcelona’s everlasting dominion over Spain and Europe.
However, his latest comments are fun way to start a debate, so here you go:
Cesc Fabregas, talking to RAC 1:
“Right now I’m fine at Arsenal but I cannot deny that to return and play for Barca would be a dream come true.
I chose to stay at the club last summer and right now I’m totally focused on the reason for that decision which was to try and win trophies.
We’ll see how things have gone by the end of the season.
The fact is that Barca are playing cinematic football right now and it’s fantastic to see that the other day when they beat Atletico Madrid 6-1 they had seven or eight guys who, like me, came through the club’s youth system.”
On Messi
“Messi is the best player in the world and he has been for a long time, never mind what people used to think about Ronaldinho in his prime.
During Messi’s football life I’ve seen him do incredible things on a football pitch, as a kid or now as a leader of the Barca team.”
Missing Hleb
“Every week I chat to Alex Hleb on the phone because he’s the guy I most miss at Arsenal. He’s a friend and I also loved playing with him.
He always looks for you with a pass and if you give him the ball you can always count on getting it back at the right time.”

I do not believe in this “Arsenal-leaving Curse”, but most of them who went in search of money and silverware have gotten fed up already. Except for Viera and Pires almost all of them crib and complain and have not achieved anything. Flamini is already making noises but the moment AC Milan got Ronaldinho, we all knew he was doomed. As for Cesc, he said he would love to go there in future (and not Real Madrid please note) so what? Anyway this came in a Spanish newspaper and I’m quite sure he spends a lot of time trying to cheer up Hleb who is currently injured. He’s a good friend to have, thats for sure………
To be honest i have no doubt that one day he will return to play for Barca. Thats where he was born and started his footballing career. I don’t believe that it will be any time soon though and the way in which we got him from Barca i wouldn’t be surprised to see him end his current contract with Arsenal which i believe is until 2012 (could be wrong there) and leave to join them on a free. Especially if we aren’t winning things. I just hope that by the time he does leave we have the next one ready to step in and fill his shoes. For sure he has friends there but then again he has got friends everywhere due to the Spanish team so i wouldn’t read much into that but Cesc is one of the players that i don’t think would suffer from the Arsenal curse, i believe that with his style of play he is most suited to the Barca style of play especially (from what i have seen so far this season) with him looking to improve his defensive side of the game. He will leave a complete mid-fielder and then it will be on to the next. I find it intriguing that Arsene has spoke of Jack Wilshere as being a central midfielder in the future, perhaps Cesc’s replacement??!! Another line for debate there hey!
What…he doesn’t miss Flamini?!
I sure as hell do
No one misses Jens Lehmann, apparently. Too bad. Jens was always good for some crazy antics on the pitch and running his mouth off to the press.
wait.. WAIT! Jens has gone? When did that happen?
Fabrigas is a humble guy, and i know he ‘ll respect his contract with ARSENAL.
I’d look for Fabregas to move to Barca about the time Xavi retires. I believe Cesc is under contract to Arsenal until 2014, when Xavi would be 34, so it would work out well timing wise. Even if Xavi is still starting in 2014, Barca would want to line up his successor.
i agree with ces 100%
@ Timus
Jens Lehmann went to Stuttgart. It was widely known that he was moving on after last season. He had feuded with Almunia all year over the #1 job and he was upset that he wasn’t starting. They even gave him a farewell ovation at the Emirates Stadium during Arsenal’s last home game of the 2007-2008 season.
…—…if however cesc leaves arsenal in the end of the season.
i think its time for arsene to open his cheque book and get some experienced players in the midfield.
we have tooooooo much young guns hardly no quality, u no wenger hardly uses them in the EPL..—..if however cesc leaves arsenal in the end of the season.
