Fabregas: Arsenal can only hope for 2nd place next season

In his typically level-headed and calm way, Fabregas has admitted that the current Arsenal squad is not good enough to win the Premiership next season.

Fabregas was very candid in his interview, discussing his own future, that of Henry and Wenger, as well as Arsenal’s title chances for next season.

Fabregas – on this season:

“Listen, I don’t know what you want me to say. Like Wenger says, we blew it. Defensively we weren’t good enough, and we have to think about our defensive decisions this season and whether it was a smart choice to buy Gallas and let Lauren go.

We could probably have taken the Cole money and brought in 2-3 new defenders.

But it was the manager’s call, and I’m sure he did what is best for Arsenal.”

On Henry:

“I don’t want to comment on Arsenal’s transfer policy. It’s obvious that Wenger and Arsenal wanted Henry to stay, and they paid him enough to keep him.

But has that worked out in our best interests? Ultimately the manager and the coach are responsible for Arsenal’s success, and if their decisions do not bring about that success then they have to answer questions.”

On Wenger:

“He’s a fantastic manager, the best I’ve ever had.

I’ve heard that he might leave Arsenal, and if that happens I’ll have to seriously reconsider my future as well.”

On Arsenal fans:

“Like all fans, they can be pig-headed at times. But they are the most fanatical fans in the world, and they worship me, so I can’t complain, can I?

Plus the free sex – don’t tell my girlfriend that – is amazing.”

On his future:

“It’s hard to say where I will be in two seasons. I’m young and there’s a lot to learn. I don’t have to prove myself to anyone.

I want to win and this summer I will sit down with my agent and with Mr Wenger and we’ll see where Arsenal is going next season. I’m afraid that with the squad we have right now, even without injuries we’re not good enough to win the Premiership.

Yes, I know it’s hard to admit for Arsenal fans but the truth is that Arsenal can only hope for 2nd place, not more.

On a positive note, I hear that Spanish girls are really hot. Lampard told me the same thing, after we’d gotten done with our little spat. I wonder if Barcelona will be willing to pay me Henry-like wages?”

On Soccerlens:

“I’m sorry, never heard of you. You’re not an Arsenal fan, are you? I don’t listen to non-Arsenal fans, it helps me if I stay away from any criticism about Arsenal, my doctor says it’s key to controlling my anger problem.”

Thanks Cesc – it’s great to see you doing so well at such a young age. Thank you for your time.
