As well as European silverware for the winners, a spot in the 2016/17 Champions League is up for grabs as well as entry into next season’s UEFA Super Cup, with Liverpool and Sevilla both gearing up for the most important match of their respective seasons. For fans and players alike, the Europa League Final is one of the biggest games of the season.

The match will be the 45th final in the history of the competition, and the seventh since its re-branding from the UEFA Cup to the Europa League.

Four-time champions Sevilla have won the previous two tournaments and are bidding to become the first side in history to win three consecutive Europa Leagues. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have won the competition three times (all as the UEFA Cup), with this their first European final since the 2006/07 season where they lost the Champions League final 2-1 to AC Milan.

Liverpool vs Sevilla

Date: May 18th 2016

Venue: St. Jakob-Park, Switzerland (36,000 capacity)

Referee: Jonas Eriksson (Sweden)

Kickoff Time: 19:45 GMT (15:45 ET)

2016 Europa League Final Tickets:

The international ticket phase, carried out by UEFA, finished on March 8th with successful ballot applicants able to buy their tickets for the match, which is in very high demand. Both clubs have been allocated tickets to distribute to their respective fans.

Liverpool conducted sales of tickets to priority right holders until May 8th, with the sale to season ticket holders, members and fan card holders ending at 11am GMT on May 10th.

The final category of tickets have been allocated via ballot, with successful applicants buying their tickets on 11th May.

Sevilla have also completed their ticket sales, with unofficial websites now selling tickets for hugely inflated prices with no guarantees of a seat.

Supt Jon Ward, a match commander with Merseyside Police in Switzerland, has warned supporters to avoid paying for tickets through unofficial sources as they run the risk of purchasing a fake and not being allowed access into the stadium on the day.

“We are aware of this and we always knew there was a likelihood people would take an opportunity to create counterfeit or forged tickets,” he said.

“I understand fans will want to get to this game and I understand the demand for tickets, but the game is sold out.

“I am confident there will be a number of checks fans have to go through to get to the stadium.

“They will check whether those tickets are genuine. If they are not you will not get near the stadium.”
