Europa League Semifinal Draw: Can Basel knock another English team out?
Rubin Kazan almost managed a comeback against Chelsea in the quarterfinal of the Europa League but goals from Fernando Torres and Victor Moses saw them clinch the tie 5-4 on aggregate.
Andre Villas-Boas’s Tottenham side had its sting taken out of it with the absence of Gareth Bale. Basel had chances to kill off the tie in both the legs but they failed to make the most of their chances. The aggregate score at 4-4, the tie went to penalties and the Swiss champions won 4-1.
Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce made the most of their chances against Lazio. Two late goals in the first leg and a draw in the the second were enough to see them through on aggregate. Benfica also were efficient in ending Newcastle United’s European run. The Portuguese Liga side won 4-2 on aggregate.
The draws for the semifinal of the Europa League were conducted on 12th April, 2013.
