No one for Italy?
can anyone explain why they think their choice will win it?
honestly i am rooting for Spain, but they quite tough group and path to the finals(read: grp C n D winner/ runners up face each other = two of the toughest groups clash.
why not Italy? because their players are old and not much squad change since WC06, while France and Holland have breed new players and looks promising.

Portugal’s path to the semis is relatively easy (until they meet Germany, that is), but after that I think the Portugal side are stronger than in 06 while the Germany side is relatively the same strength, so Portugal could edge it.
In the final, all bets are off - I’d expect Scolari to mastermind a win (although if we’re going by managers then Italy shouldnt make it to the final…)

As a long time follower/sufferer of the Dutch team I’d love to see them win it (’88 was awesome) just can’t see it
I know there are no easy games when it gets to this level but group C re-defines “Group of death”!
France are patchy but have the goods, ditto italy, can’t discount Germans or Portugal
Would have said Croatia if not for Eduardo’s absence, same for Czech’s/Rosicky
so will again hope for Netherlands over germans in final
Spain being dark horse (if they can finally get their act together)

Some of you people sound ludicrous, giving off these very uneducated guesses. I guess some people are just not real football fanatics. But I will give you all a lesson:
Group A
Switzerland- very small chance playing to a home crowd is beneficial but the starting eleven is not very talented.
Czech Republic- starting eleven is rounded out very nicely, strong possesional team, and is probably the best, or close to being the best counter attacking team in the tournament.
Portugal- as per the usual Portugal has the best midfield by far in the entire tournament bar none, however their transitional game from back to front entirely relies on Ronaldo (occasionally Quaresma can pull them through)however they lack a striker’s touch. And this is primarily their setback they have no world class striker’s not even one (Hugo Almeida, Nuno Gomes, Azzira Makukula, c’mon get real)this severely limits them to their amount of success, should Scholari decide to adopt a more offensive formation, Portugal can very well be a contender, but very doubtful.
Turkey- I like this turkish squad they have a lot of youth as well as veterans rounding out their starting XI, however a lack of experience in the international stand point may prove pivotal in their success, they will have to ride their strikers and depend highly on there back four, with many of the turkishFa club teams suffering with debt many of these players have become accustomed to first team experience and have a valid oppurtunity to turn some heads.
Group B
Austria-pfff yeah right look at their group, playing at home is their only chance, their starting eleven looks as good as Canada’s, and that is not an accomplishment, they do however have some wiley hardnosed defensemen which may give them a boost however they are in for a difficult group stage.
Croatia- This Croatian squad looks very good, croatian teams have been known in the past to be very disciplined, however I don’t believe that they have the appropriate level of attacking skills to be a real threat, and to compete in this group you need to be attack minded and extremely physical, to out muscle the much larger Poles and Germans.
Germany- contrary to many but I believe that although their haven’t been many changes to this squad from 06, their youth players who played a massive role in their third place finish at the Worlds are now among the most elite in Football, Klose is a force< Podolski strikes the ball harder then Roberto Carlos, there are going to be a hell of a team to beat, from front to back they are a Powerhouse, Mertesacker is one mean Defender.
Poland- Same old Same old, they are due for some success however this is not the team to get it for them, they are also in dire need of a real striker, but the rest of the squad are not so shabby.
Group C
Netherlands- WOW, they are going to be good
Italy- eh, maybe, but doubtful
Romania- playing for free, and the love of their Country I have too admire that but also doubtful
France- not the team they once were but a couple of young superstars on the docket lets see how they respond, Benzema is fantastic but lets see what his form will be like during the tournament
Group D
Greece- worst euro champs ever
Sweden- they have one good footballer in their entire line up,Ibrahimovich other then that, BUH
Spain- WOW phenomenal team front to back
Russia- Its a tight one between them and sweden but Guus Hiddink is a very good manager lets see what he pulls out of his sleeve.

QF #2 - Germany v France = Germany
QF #3 - Netherlands v Russia = Netherlands
QF #4 - Spain v France = Spain
SF #1 - Portugal v Germany = Germany
SF #2 - Netherlands v Spain = Spain
Final - Germany v Spain = this one is tough but overall I would have to go with Spain, unless Germany can contain Torres, if they do then Germany will win. Final Answer = Spain.
The euro cup is always difficult cause veritably the best team should win but with one game finals, you never know, I mean c’mon was Greece really deserving champions I think not, and it’s a shame that England didn’t qualify they have such agood starting eleven, it is a true dissapointment, but that’s what happens when the FA is run by a bunch of BOOBS.
VIVA PORTUGAL !!
I’ve already given my predictions, but my favourites to win are Germany, Portugal, and the Netherland, i’m not a fan of Spain’s side but I picked them to win cause they are an extremely good team!

QF #4 - Spain v Holland
SF #1 - Portugal v Germany
SF #2 - France v Holland
Final - Portugal v France
Winner - Tough one, maybe France.
Top Goalscorer - Another tough one, Henry maybe.
I reckon Spain - Holland will be a good one if it happens.
Candidates:
Portugal: Their success depends on how they use the talents of Ronaldo. He scored so many at United because they have a very very good team and built their system around Ronaldo. He won’t get so many chances playing for Portugal and the good teams know if they double mark him Portugal do not have anyone else who can really harm them. Will progress but will come unstuck against a good team. Semis
Spain: Have all the talent and arguably in Villa and Torres the best striking partnership in the tournament and the rest of their team is full of quality. On paper the best team in the tournament. In practice will underperform again. Semis
Germany: What they lack in flair and technique they make up in teamwork and power. Ballack is on form and will drive them far in the tournament and with Klose and Podolski they will score lots of goals. Finals
France: Henry is past his peak, Zidane is long gone, Benzema could make an impact but as a team France will not be good enough to get beyond the quarters
Italy: Ageing team but they have the experience for competitions like this and are capable of turning back the years for the big games. Finals
Winner will be Germany probably a Ballack winner
I’m not too impressed with Domenech; leaving Mexes, Sagna, Flamini and Trezeguet out of the team. I agree wholeheartedly with leaving Clichy out of the team though, a mediocre player if ever there was one. Malouda and Ribery on the wings were fantastic in ‘06 and they both earned themselves big deals later on. Their central midfield looks good [Vieira, Diarra/Makelele] and their defence looks solid [Evra, Abidal and Thuram, who plays like he's still 23]. I think Henry will have a great tournament but the question is Anelka or Benzema? Or maybe even the long shot Gomis. I’ve always liked the Henry - Trezeguet partnership, really can’t understand what Domenech has against Trezeguet. Van Basten called Van Nistelrooy up after leaving him in limbo, so why can’t Domenech do the same? Maybe it’s similar to when Cantona didn’t get called up in 96 (I think?), the manager wanted to build a new team around younger players like Zidane.
Holland are impressive up front; Van der Vaart, Van Nistelrooy, Robben and have a good central midfield; Sneijder and the less known De Jong but their defence is weak. Heitinga looks decent, which is more than can be said for the rest of the defence. Nevertheless, Holland tend to do well and I wouldn’t mind seeing Van Nistelrooy and Huntelaar play together even if playing two players of that mould together is no longer fashionable. Holland don’t seem strong on paper but I think that Van Basten has done a good job uniting the players and I think that Holland will do well.
Portugal seem to have their best team ever; aside from the traditionally good wingers [Ronaldo, Quaresma, Nani, etc.] they also have some good defenders [Pepé, Bosingwa, R. Carvalho] and some good central midfielders [Deco, Veloso, Moutinho], their goalie seems good [Ricardo] and they have one of the best coaches in the game [Scolari]. I don’t know who their striker will be, Hugo Almeida seems to be a candidate, don’t know much about him but he’s been good from what I’ve seen. I think a 4-5-1 would be of great benefit to the team.
Italy have never really had great central midfielders but that’s changed now; Aquilani, Perrotta, De Rossi, Pirlo and Gattuso are all exceptional players and it will be interesting to see who plays. We may have improved in that respect but our defence is no long what it was, gone are the Maldini-Nesta-Cannavaro days. Our back four seems solid; Zambrotta, who is still the best full-back in the world I reckon, Barzagli or Materazzi, Cannavaro and Grosso. Cannavaro is nowhere near what he was at Juve or in ‘06 but he’s our captain and is still a decent player. Materazzi is a player I can’t fault offensively but he’s a bit of a mess in defence and I don’t rate him highly. Barzagli looks alright but he could make some mistakes. If Donadoni gets it right we could see a Cassano - Toni partnership; Toni has established himself as, along with Trezeguet, Drogba and Van Nistelrooy, one of the best out-and-out strikers in the world and Cassano still has that creativity that brought him to prominence. Our wingers look shabby, Camoranesi hasn’t been very special this year and I don’t know who our other winger will be. I think Italy will do well but I think Holland could beat them to second place, maybe on goal difference as I see them cancelling eachother out in their direct match.
Spain, eternal underachievers, also look fanciable; they have two of the best strikers in the world [Torres and Villa] with the Liga top goalscorer Guiza also looking to bag a few goals, two of the best defenders in the world [Ramos and Puyol], a terrific central midfield; Iniesta and Fabregas seem the obvious picks but Xabi Alonso and Xavi are no pushovers. They also have possibly the best goalkeeper in the world [Casilias] and some good attacking options on the wings [Silva and the less-established Cazorla]. Yes, Spain seem like a very good bet but they never seem to function as a squad, I think that Holland will do the job against them if it comes to it.
Germany have a solid team aswell, Lehmann seems motivated and will be at his best, their defence looks solid, Mertesacker, Metzelder, Lahm and Jansen look like a good quartet, Ballack and Schweinsteiger look like a good pair and there’s a variety of strikers to choose from [Gomez, Klose, Podolski], Germany have only improved since ‘06 and, judging from the fixtures, seem a safe bet to make it to the semi finals. Germany will have a good tournament and will be among the teams to beat.
As much as I’d love to predict a surprise package I really can’t, the only surprises I can think of are Czech Rep and Croatia who might go just a litle bit further, considering that they will avoid Holland, Italy, Spain and France until the final at most. One of them could make it to the final but I can’t see another upset like ‘04, not against the big guns.
Hey Derek Azevedo, how can you say that greece wasn’t a deserving champion??? If you are portuguese which i’m sure you are, then its sour losers like yourself that make the portuguese look bad! Ofcourse Greece deserved to be named champs! They played the best desfensive game out there! Clearly frustrated you guys since you were only able to score 1 goal on us! But its jealous guys like yourself that make people look at you guys and laugh laugh and laugh away!! HAHAHAAAAAA! You guys haven’t beaten us in over 13 years! It’ll be another 13 years when you guys might come close to even tying us! HAHAAAA! And you know what, if you scroll up, you’ll see my predictions and i am predicting it to be a Greece and Portugal final and for it to be a close game because we are both evenly matched teams! But only for you because you are a sour loser, I’ll do a little rubbing in!! Never try to open your mouth and say that a country like Greece wasn’t deserving the Euro Cup because we didn’t make the W/C! Whats more worse…..Greece not making the W/C after winning in 04, or Italy not making the Euro Cup in 84 after winning the W/C in 82??? Think about it then come back and say something with a little more brains!

I had chosen liverpool over manutd in 2000… 2002 was the first world cup I watched. I have no connection whatsoever with germany but staring at my panini album, I just knew I supported them- it was like a call of blood- like when I saw Anfield on Tv the first time.
I watched Germany’s first game. Against saudi arabia.8-0. I made the right choice (again, as lfc did the triple in 2001 )
Now the team changed, and its time to make up 4 the hurt. Germany are the team 2 beat… It’s just a shame ballack plays for just a galantless team like chelsea.

Hey Clacko, I guess it was tasteless for me too say they were undeserving champions, but I’m a fan of aggressive football, teams that have great transitional play, a team that penetrates, Now yes I am of Portuguese descent, but that wasn’t my point, my point is that, if your defending well, that’s good but to only defend and counter, is a footballing sin. If your a true fan a football you yourself can admit that although you enjoyed watching your team win you couldn’t of enjoyed their play.
Oh and the whole Italian thing Clasko that is certainly one of the biggest dissapointment in FIFA AND UEFA CUP competitions, however Greece not making the worlds the last go around is not by any means a surprise, the Worlds are a different animal, it’s very hard to qualify, and not only that but all that debauchery that happened in Turkey really didn’t help the greeks out at all. I hope the greeks all the luck, I hope they can provide some exciting footballfor me too watch, instead of the lacklustre brand of football that they displayed in 04. If they don’t do so then a team like Germany who have impeccable strikers, will tear you guys to peices, and that is the very real truth.
hey Quacko one last thing, how do you suppose that Portugal and Greece are evenly matched, give me a breakdown as to what greece can honestly offer Portugal in a real football match, not a snorefest!!! who are their real attacking players, considering !!! Defensively they can sit back and take a beating but eventually they will concede goals!!!
i agree with derek PORTUGALLLLLL!!!
K first of all Derek…..my user name is Clacko, don’t throw low blows and calling me “Clasko” or “Quacko”…..i didn’t go low and screwing up your name! Yes, I am a fan of the game but what people don’t realize is that not just in soccer, but in all sports, defence wins you championships!! Offence can only go so far! Look in hockey, Pittsburg has all the young guns but look who is shutting them down, a well structured defensive team in Detroit! New Jersey for the longest time had the best defence in the whole league and for that reason they won all of those Stanley Cups! In basket ball, the Detroit Pistons and the San Antonio Spurs have the best defence, look how awesome they always do! In football, New England has the best offence by faaaar and they almost had the perfect season but that all came crashing down to a defensive team in the New York Giants in the Super Bowl! Now back to my team……yes its true, we played a great defensive game in 04, some might say it was even better the italys game in 06 when they won, but i was still loving every single moment of it, even tho they didn’t have much of an attacking team but that wasn’t their style of play! Watching the likes of Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane, Nedved, and Henry get frustrated over and over and over again, was very cherishing for me and every greek out there and to be honest, even a lot of non greeks would come up to me and say u guys played the best defensive game that they had ever seen and it was amasing to watch! So that part i am sorry to tell you, i had nothing wrong with watching! Sure offensive games or teams are exciting, but to what extent??? that just ends up being boring and too dam predictable! Now, us not making the world cup….i’m not giving any excuses, we just didn’t play good enough to win and thats that! I’m glad that we didn’t just squeak our way in because i know that greece didn’t play its game and for that i am thankful that we didn’t make it or else we would of gotten destroyed if we were in a group with the likes of either brazil, argentina, or germany! Now, greece is playing a more balanced game and muuuch better then the w/c qualifying, so if they can continue their play of recent then i don’t have to worry that much about the euro or the w/c qualifying for 2010! Now, your final stalment….you wrote a lot…lol….honestly, no shots to you as a person at all…you sound like u do no your football and thats good! i didn’t like you calling me those names but whatever, i’m over it…just don’t do it again! Greece and Portugal…well first off…every game is a real match! the only thing that defence isn’t a loud in is street ball! soo sorry to tell you, that will never happen between the teams! what greece has to offer portugal is very simple…frustration! Greece knows how to play as a team and thats why they won the euro! not just because of the defence, but it was about the hard team work they did! All the big teams play that same style except portugal and i don’t know why that is! I wish they would because i don’t have a problem with portgal! I love ronaldo and i’ll be the first greek to admit it! My girlfriend is portuguese but thats not why i like your team! You guys have to learn how to play as a team and if u did….then you guys would be unstoppable and for that reason, we break you guys down with our balaced team play!
#1. It’s attack, not offence.
#2. No team would win if it had a great attack and mediocre defence or vice versa. You need both, fact. Even the Barca team that won the Champions League against Arsenal that was criticized for being too offensive had Puyol and Marquéz. Teams like the post-Stam, pre-Ferdinand era United didn’t have great defences and they didn’t do well and the same is for teams like Chelsea who had no fit strikers for some time last year.
#3. Greece were lucky, end of. They tried their best and it paid off, credit to them. They were not the best team in Europe and were lucky that other, better teams like Italy, France and Holland all underperformed.
#4. How old are you?
#5. You say that Greece will be Group D Runners-Up, that Greece will beat France and that Italy will beat Spain [aka Group D Winners] and then lose to Greece? Isn’t that a tad bit incoherent saying that Spain will be better than you in the Group Stages, will then lose to Italy who will then lose to Greece?
#6. Don’t predict Greece just because you’re Greek. I’m Italian but I’m not biased.

Germany wins Euro 2008
The Euro is a harder competition to win com pared to the World Cup. There are many great teams in this competition, so it will be fun to watch. I’m hoping my boys from Portugal come through and WIN the Tournament becasue they have the talent to do so. The best midfield, hands down. What scares me about Portugal is the strikers. they’ve always been a issue. I personally thing either Portugal will go real far(finals or win Euro) or choke and not get past the group stage. Also, after reading a few of the above comments about Greece, they have a good defensive team. The beat Portugal fare and square in the Finals, and the Portuguese have no one to blame but themselves for their screwup. You also can’t count out teams like Italy, Czech, Spain, and Germany. My prediction is Germany. But sure hoping for Portugal!!
FORCA PORTUGAL!!!
Hey Clacko I apologize about the names, well put, however i’ll agree to disagree attacking football is important, so is defence, but the best defense is the team that scores more!! your hockey analogies are good though, and I have to admit certain defensive teams in the past have excelled in competition, however football is supposed to be beautiful.
Hey Clacko : the fact is that Greece won the EURO2004 and not even the greeks believe it. It was like that win from Denmark who won the title after being called to replace the former yoguslavia. It was a world wide surprise. In fcat, i dont see Greece to pass the group stages on every predictions you can read on this same site.
Greece is in fact, a joker champ. Shouldn’t ever be the winner but chance wanted that way…
1. I beleive that almost every team CAN win it. Even Austria. What is needed? Some luck in the first game. Some boost in selfconfidence, a very good defense and two or three individuals in form. That was the winning formula of Greece! Of course Greece wasn’t the best team in Euro 04.
2. Some teams have better chances: Germany, Italy and France simply because of their experience and the “know-how-to-reach-to-the-final-without-playing-great”. Spain and Portugal have the most talented players but I doubt about their constistency-efficiency. Chech republic and Netherlands are very good teams with talented players and they are underdogs, so they haven’t so much pressure. I could bid on any of these two teams. But I repeat any team can do it.
Hey Pee Jay, anything is possible in soccer!! And its not even about the fact that i put spain to finish the group tops….i actually think that spain and greece will finish tied for the group but only for greece to come in 2nd due to the goals for! I actually think that both greece and spain will win 2 and tie the last game that they play against each other! 2nd….Just because i put them to finish 2nd doesn’t mean that they will automatically lose to italy whom i have beating spain! different teams match up better with others! Look at portugal, they haven’t beaten us in over 13 years but they always beat england and greece hasn’t be able to beat england in god knows how long! its just the way how each team matches against each other! 3rd…..i know that greece were lucky to win the euro…heck all teams need some luck to win major championships! look at italy for w/c…sure u guys played a heck of a tournament…but 2 games u got away with lucky because of a b.s penalty shot call against the austrailians and please don’t tell me that was a good call cause even italians that i know say that it wasn’t a good call! and if it wasn’t for that amasing save that buffon did against zidane….france would of been the champs because they did play better, not a lot better, but better then the italians…..so don’t tell me about luck because again, every team needs luck in their side! 4th and final stalment….i know greece weren’t the best team, heck i’ll even say that the czechs were the most dominating team but, i’ll say it again….offence or “ATTACK” as you put it, can only go so far! they pressed and pressed for the full 90 mins….to get them no where! and we took it to them with the most chances and outplaying them in the extra time! Oh…and i’m 25 years old and i do know my soccer! i don’t play it cause i was stupid and i started smoking, but i do watch it with great passion and i do follow every team out there! and actually, if people are trying to compare this greek team to the 04 team, i’ll let you in on a secret….they are a much better and more balanced team this time around with actually not only relying on defence! I’m sure you have done your research on that one!

Greece over Roumania.
Spain to defeat France (or Italy ).
Poland over the Czechs, Spain over Greece
Spain wins it!
If I have the schedule correct, I picked these teams way back in April.
————-
C. Ronaldo is great for MUFC and would be in the Spanish League but playing for Country, I think the Portuguese team falters. You watch all, Portugal will not advance.
Poland defeated Portugal for first in the group; they will exact at least a draw vs. the Germans and the Croatians will defeat Germany. Germany will not advance.
Romania handled their qualifying group and will advance though they could be in second place. They don’t make these tournaments always so will put out a good effort. I think Italy or France can advance. They play in their last group game and it is Romania versus Holland. These games will decide a lot.
Spain is dominant and will win all. Greece most likely will play with inspiration and take second in group D. This is the only imbalanced group I feel, these first two teams are quite a bit better than Sweden or Russia but Russia has Hiddink and that is their chance.

YAY!!
Its ridiculous to say Portugal are a one man team, even Ronaldo can not make an International team world class on his own. International football is alot superior to club football because there are less international sides which makes them far stronger. Nearly ever top international team could field 2 teams of world class players!
acevedo
I’ll be around!!!
Just pick the EZ picks, huh? that is how Greece won last time, cause everyone just picks the obvious?
Portugal, Germany, no… but one of these two teams ain’t advancing if not both, Croatia is good and Poland in an opener can draw. Croatia is advancing, so I think, Poland will scrape through too.
One needs to remember, even good teams pull a turkey sometimes, and that is part of predicting too.
France in 2002, Germany in 2004.
Poland defeated Portugal in group play, Romania handled their group with Holland too.

Plum Village - Being a football fan is all about stating the obvious of course there are gonna be big shocks but everyone wants to see the big teams in the late parts of the comp, everyone wants to see the best players in the world all go head to head.
Some reknown World Cups and Champions have happened with clear cheating and other cases of other questionable tactics.
Greeks won it honestly, Beware of those who want those to win,
Who’ve found dope in their lockerroooms, whose goaltender mauls a lone attacker, who dive like they are drunker than a skunk, who get the other teams captain sent off with outright harrassment.
Oh, and lastly, those who use god’s hand to win Championships. Quite illustrious winners we have.
Andrew89, it will be a big ask of Turkey to accomplish even a qualifying place in the group stage however if they edge out Czech Rep or maybe even Portugal for second (I doubt there will be much in between the 3 teams), AND if Croatia do them a favour by ensuring Turkey avoid Germany early on, it is a possibility.
Anyways, I believe my set of predictions was a well thought out one that probably would have generated more response than an almost text-book like answer picking between the more favoured lot (Portugal, Germany, France and maybe even Netherlands, Italy and Spain).
Andrew89 and Acevedo can dispute others picks, what would Spain’s coach Luis Aragones know?
“For me, Italy is the favourite, then Portugal, but there are others that nobody has mentioned like Romania. But that is just my opinion. In reality there are 12 or 14 teams that could win it,” Aragonés said.
Spain, last minute win versus Peru, but they are friendlies after all.

I support Greece and hope to god they can go all the way again, and I strongly believe they CAN !! however these are defenitly the realistic picks,, with Greece as a strong outsider possibility, with no question Greece has the best balanced team in Europe right now, we know they have best defence in the world, and they way they’re scoring lately, they will be the team to beat.
The italy supporters are deeply missled if they think that team is a contender, especially in group C they will be lucky to score a goal (2 ties and a loss to France)
ZITTO ELLADARA ,,, SIKOSETTO

Does Andrew89 even make picks? Seems like he is just packing as mucha abuse as he can in to what he says…and no one comes for that.
I have to edit my picks In my first section I gave Turkey an outsiders chance of getting out of the first group stage.
“Turkey- I like this turkish squad they have a lot of youth as well as veterans rounding out their starting XI, however a lack of experience in the international stand point may prove pivotal in their success, they will have to ride their strikers and depend highly on there back four, with many of the turkishFa club teams suffering with debt many of these players have become accustomed to first team experience and have a valid oppurtunity to turn some heads.”
Well that has changed now that Altintop will miss the first 2 games, they have no chance at all, revision is complete.

FINAL: Portugal V Netherlands: Portugal (1-0)
Portugal has a very talented and strong team. I bet they will win this Euro08!
so far Leon Fini (comment 103) has the best predictions.
Guys, get realistic. No matter how football works, Portugal is guaranteed out of their group, followed by either Turkey or Czech, who are at about the same skill level, thus it will be more up to form. I would say Turkey’s offensive style of play will beat the Czechs maybe even on goal difference, unless P. Cech is in incredulous form.
So,
Group A:
Portugal
Turkey/Czech
Czech/Turkey
Switzerland
And Germany will easily ran off out of Group B, only Croatia will let them struggle.
Group B:
Germany
Croatia
they will pass easily.
Group C:
Italy
Holland
very interesting group. I say France will have a hard time. After all, who was it that led them to the final in the WC 06? yes you’ve guessed it, it’s donuthead(Zidane.) and is he here? no. Henry is old too, Ribery is who they will depend on for speed. I say Italy, who have a fantastic team, and a brilliant Dutch squad. Both practically allstar teams, i must say
Group D:
Spain
Sweden
Spain will make it out with a squad like the one they have, Sweden are bound to get their act together to top over Greece, who are a great teamwork squad but with hardly any indivisual skill compared to the other 2 favorites for this group. I doubt very highly that they can repeat the “miracles”(luck? who knows though, football is a world of anything
) of 2004.
In the quarters, Portugal are bound to progress over Germany or Croatia, Turkey would lose to either. Maybe a chance against Croatia if they are on one of their good days, and maybe if they can hold out Germany with luck and motivation, but I doubt it highly.
Spain, Italy, Portugal and Germany will make the semis.
Take a look. Italy? I doubt it. They’ve got the skill, the players, but….. Not really. Think about it, do good teams always win? I don’t think Italy have a squad to overcome any of these semifinal teams. And as for Germany, they depend on a few key players, but their playing will not bring them the Euro cup. the final can be made, but i doubt the cup can be won by them. So it’s between Portugal and Spain. It’s not indivisual skill, it’s the team, but both teams are driven by certain players so I’m really not sure.
I’m leaning more towards Portugal if Ronaldo can find his form during the competition, and Spain if Torres looks able to take the oppurtunities.
So long, and good luck to everyone in Euro 2008
