Portugal has a very talented and strong team. I bet they will win this Euro08!

Guys, get realistic. No matter how football works, Portugal is guaranteed out of their group, followed by either Turkey or Czech, who are at about the same skill level, thus it will be more up to form. I would say Turkey’s offensive style of play will beat the Czechs maybe even on goal difference, unless P. Cech is in incredulous form.

very interesting group. I say France will have a hard time. After all, who was it that led them to the final in the WC 06? yes you’ve guessed it, it’s donuthead(Zidane.) and is he here? no. Henry is old too, Ribery is who they will depend on for speed. I say Italy, who have a fantastic team, and a brilliant Dutch squad. Both practically allstar teams, i must say

Spain will make it out with a squad like the one they have, Sweden are bound to get their act together to top over Greece, who are a great teamwork squad but with hardly any indivisual skill compared to the other 2 favorites for this group. I doubt very highly that they can repeat the “miracles”(luck? who knows though, football is a world of anything
) of 2004.
In the quarters, Portugal are bound to progress over Germany or Croatia, Turkey would lose to either. Maybe a chance against Croatia if they are on one of their good days, and maybe if they can hold out Germany with luck and motivation, but I doubt it highly.
Spain, Italy, Portugal and Germany will make the semis.
Take a look. Italy? I doubt it. They’ve got the skill, the players, but….. Not really. Think about it, do good teams always win? I don’t think Italy have a squad to overcome any of these semifinal teams. And as for Germany, they depend on a few key players, but their playing will not bring them the Euro cup. the final can be made, but i doubt the cup can be won by them. So it’s between Portugal and Spain. It’s not indivisual skill, it’s the team, but both teams are driven by certain players so I’m really not sure.
I’m leaning more towards Portugal if Ronaldo can find his form during the competition, and Spain if Torres looks able to take the oppurtunities.

This is my prediction but i would really want to see a portugal v. italy final but i dont think Italy can get throught the skill of Span or Netherlands. Portugal has Ronaldo but he isnt gunna win it for portugal. i think nuno gomes will break out and surprise everyone.

I think GT is the only one who predicted properly.
Yes, Italy has had the same squad (with a few minor changes) since ‘06, however, look at the way they play. Thier strategy is 2nd to none and they play such strategic football that few teams can match their play. Sure, many teams come very close, and the odd time they fail because they rely too much on the trap that they play in their end, but when they start moving the ball they get goals. The only problem Italy has is that they hang back too much once they are up. Netherlands, Germany, Portugal… all good teams, however they lack experience under pressure. The great teams stick to their plan no matter what and dont panic when they go down a goal.
Italy will win.
Greece (lets be honest, their win in euro was the biggest fluke/ set up ever.)

Andrew, i could subscribe everything you wrote. Except perhaps your sayings about Spain. Spanish league is a high level one mostly because of their foreigners. Money is like honey… If you take back all the foreigners from the spanish league it would be a regular one. So, do not take the spanish league (good one) by the spanish football itself(also a good one of course but not enough to win the euro ). After all, Spain was sent home after the 1/8’s round in the euro’04 and WC’06. Story won’t be diferent this time !!!
I do think surprises are possible – again, just like with Greece.
I know that smaller countries will never be favorites when reading the media of much larger countries, but consider that for example Croatia topped Russia and kicked England’s butt 2 times in the Qualifiers. And I don’t for a second doubt that England (if here) would be also without a doubt be considered a contester to the throne – and for no reason other then well its England. Just like Italy is Italy, Germany is Germany and France is France – right?
The best unified teams that play cohesively, not the teams with the most dazzling individual prowess will advance out of the groupstage. That being said, if Roumania can muster a point and not loose any player to injury or red card in their opening game to France the outcome will be two so called soccer super powers exiting from the group of death not one.

Guys, get real!! Spain won’t get to finals! They haven’t got the team for that… I put them as a prediction in Semi-Finals, but I doubt they will pass to the SM’s or Final.
Portugal has got the best chance, so as Germany and Italy to win this Euro. One of these 3 will win it, for sure!
Hey Sky sailor, I’m of Portuguese descent And I want the to win but you saying that spain doesn’t have the side to do it is just plain stupidity, the have probably the best side in the tournament. Torres, Cepdevila, Xavi, Puyol, their a fantastic side.

@ Andrew + Rui ,,,Greece had bad results in 2 friendlies and you’re dishing them?? They played all their rookies, and the veterans got a total of about 8-10 minutes each – I saw the games. I have to agree, they might be able to pull through the group stages as a runner up too spain but the odds are against them… they are posted as 48 to 1 odds for betting purposes, i might bet a 1$ just cause of how high the odds are. Talk all you want about Italy, I agree they dive, sure they rely on penalty kicks to score goals, name a team that doesnt become ballerinas in the 18 yeard box though?
Bottom line, tactic. Skill. Strategy.
