It is true that historically, many of Italy's greatest successes have been over Deutschland: <b>1970 World Cup Semi-finals</b> - Italy 4-3 Germany (OT) (regarded by many as one, if not <i>the</i> one, of the greatest games in World Cup history) <b>1982 World Cup Final</b> - Italy 3-1 Germany <b>2006 World Cup Semi-finals</b> - Italy 2-0 Germany (once again, <i>the</i> best game of the tournament) I’m fairly certain there must have been a time when Germany did beat us in an important match Steve (at some point), but nothing comes to my mind.

It is true that historically, many of Italy’s greatest successes have been over Deutschland:

1970 World Cup Semi-finals – Italy 4-3 Germany (OT) (regarded by many as one, if not the one, of the greatest games in World Cup history)
1982 World Cup Final – Italy 3-1 Germany

I don't know if you will be looking across the groups, head-to-head, once we arrive at the later stages, but one historical statistic is interesting. Germany/West Germany, to the best of my knowledge, has never beaten Italy in a competitive game. There have been draws, and they have won some friendlies. I believe they last met at the Euro in 1996, and the result was a draw. One of the reasons may be that unlike with France, Italy hasn't played as many competitive games against the Germans. But some have been classics, such as the ones at World Cup 70, 82, and 06. Marco:
