Looking to plan a trip to see your favorite Premier League club next season? If you need a little help, Chris Harris, aka The Gaffer from EPL Talk, has everything you need to make your trip a success, whether it’s near or far, with In Pursuit of Real Football: The Soccer Fan’s Ultimate Travel Guide to Attending EPL Matches in England.
It’s an American-friendly guide, but even if you live in England or are coming from another region to see the world’s best league in person, there are plenty of helpful hints for you.
The guide starts off by comparing a tour package to planning your own trip. Here’s a quick summary of what he says: if you want to do it the easy way and not plan much – but overpay in the process – go for the tour package; if you want to be free, have as much fun as possible, and do it inexpensively, planning your trip is the way to go.
After he gets you swayed into planning your trip (at least I hope he does),he gives you all the information that you’ll need to be able to see and experience as much as possible during your stay.
From telling you the best time to visit and then helping you plan your trip piece by piece – which stadiums to visit, your flight and lodging, transportation in England, taking care of currency, and making sure you have the little things (from umbrellas to travel adapters) taken care of – this guide has it all covered.
And for those who are confident enough to get behind the wheel on the English roads, the guide also provides a link to ‘How to Drive in the UK,’ so that you don’t end up having to add towing fees and hospital visits to your trip expenses.
As an added bonus, the guide gives you links to all of the Premier League clubs’ official sites and to the official U.S. supporters’ clubs for many EPL sides.
From start to finish, the guide is packed with links, maps, diagrams, and more than enough info to help make your trip to England a success.
All in all, it’s an excellent resource for those who want to make an inexpensive (well, as inexpensive as possible in this day and age) trip to see their favorite clubs and players in the near future. I, for one, recommend it; I’ll be using it, and suggest you should too, because you don’t want to end up broke and stranded in Bolton.
