So basically.. England were 3-0 up, everyone was sleeping and Estonia was slaugthered already.
Perfect conditions for Lampard to do what I wrote in an earlier comment: run, claim the ball and make the difference, against a weak and beaten opponent. Grab the spotlight.

He was fresh, injury or not, and could have gotten his 5 minutes here, become a hero again, some shots in only 15 minutes would have made Wembley love Lamps again.
And contrary to a regular England 11 game where he plays next to Gerrard, he even didn’t have to bother about dropping back when the other goes [Gerrard] forward. He could have played straight behind Rooney in a role we’ve seen from Tevez last games. As a #10.
What more did he want?

The only thing I’ve seen is a sleeping Lamps. That’s not why you bring in fresh players in a game. Period. 3-0 or not.
I want to see workers on the pitch, then I’m the first one to defend them.

On another note, it’s true Gerrard alone wasn’t that great either, but the harmony he and Barry showed, raised the performance of both to another level.

Nothing to do with the injury. I know thats not an excuse and wasnt referring to that.England were 3-0 up and everybody had pretty much stopped trying to attack from the start of the second half. Lampard came on and it stayed pretty much the same, Lampard himself doing as much as either Gerrard or Barry in that time. However the way you wrote the article made out that Lampard was completely responsible for our failure to attack in the 2nd half when that clearly wasnt the case. Howcome Gerrard, who was started in his favoured position for the third game in a row, and for a third game in a row squandered possesion countless times is immune from critisism? Until Lampard is played alongside Barry in an attacking role with Gerrard off the pitch then there is no way of knowing whether Lampard is bad for England, therefore he shouldnt be critisized.

What facts? That he was injured? Sorry mate, but that doesn’t count when you’re on the pitch.

Just get real, a player might have been injured but once he’s out there he has to perform. Imagine it were a goalie and he lets one ball pass. You lose the UCL final with 1-0, are you also going to say that he was injured for a long time?
Screw that, you lost in that example. Excuses don’t win you any cups.

FYI, I actually am much more of a Lampard fan than a Stevie fan. Lamps when playing well is my kind of player, my Effenberg, my Lothar Matthäus, my Ballack even. And no I’m not German.

I thought the booing of Lampard was disgusting and completely unwarranted. And it happens because of ridiculous articles like this, which ignore facts and abandone any sense of perspective just to slate Lampard for no reason. Its obvious that Lampard and Gerrard can’t play together, but why is there this hate capaign. Gerrard may be better on his day but hes not that much great. Hell probably never do as much at a major tournaent as Lampard did at euro 2004.

And is that right? To quote those ratings:

“His typical – even good – performances involve losing the ball frequently but of late, even his shooting and passing have deserted him.
