EatSleepSport Publishes BS Rumours About Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool and Real Madrid
I can understand (and to an extent, relate to) the frustration experienced by football writers on a Sunday (a slow news day), but for the love of fkn god can you please not invent news?
To start off with, here’s a well-research masterpiece on how Manchester United are going to bid 20 mil for Carrick. I don’t care what Tottenham fans think of Carrick, but he’s not worth 15 mil, let alone 20 mil. And the irony of this news item is that this writer must have been asleep yesterday to not catch Ferguson saying quite clearly that Manchester United will not pay over the market value for any player.
The second is just as ridiculous. Fabio Capello has been crowing for a long, long time that he would like to bring Kaka to Real Madrid, and after Emerson’s signing (to plug the hole Fabregas was supposed to fill) it was a bit obvious that Madrid were not going to be looking for another holding midfielder. But no. The brilliant journalistic minds at ESS decided otherwise, and chose to publish this drivel about Madrid preparing a 20 mil, 80k per week bid for Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso. Never mind that Capello’s second midfielder is Kaka, and that he already has Baptista and Guti as central midfielders. Never mind that Capello is more likely to look for a winger than a CM.
The trouble is that these guy are putting out so much of news in a given day (and most of it actually true) that the bullshit is hard to point out. It’s because of bad journalists like these that most of the time the club’s fans are under totally false impressions of what their club is doing (witness the Torres fetish that has gripped Manchester United fans for the last month).
So, in case you guys were wondering, here’s the real news:
Manchester United are not going to bid over 14 mil for Carrick, and they are more likely to offer a young player in addition to the 10 mil already offered to tempt Tottenham to part with the midfielder. However, nothing of this sort is going to happen until Manchester United can sort out their chase of Gattuso and Vieira, which can only be done next week after the appeals from the four Serie A clubs are heard and sorted out. Look for concrete transfer news on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Real Madrid are after Kaka and Nistelrooy, plus a winger and maybe a left back if Roberto Carlos leaves (as he is expected to). If the Nistelrooy deal does not work Capello will go after Juve’s strikers.
Ok, enough angry rants for today. Thank you for listening ![]()

I think its a pretty much known thing that eatsleepsport publishes bullshit. I use newsnow.co.uk to scan the news and everynow and then I see ridiculous bullshit like chelski to bid 70 mill for kaka.
All you have to do is ignore them.
but there will be others who will click on the link adn be given a premium rate number to call.
That’s a good rant. An overdue one too. Perhaps one could prevail upon NewsNow to drop these B/S feeds. I also get p*ssed off by the regurgative stuff from World Footballers - based in Australia, always late and often superceeded by realtime news anyway.
Well, I have been saying this for years, The gutter press make up total and utter crud when they can’t be bothered to get off the bar stool and find some news with a tad of truth in it.
A player is worth what a football club are prepared to pay for him, man U will not pay £20 million for Carrick but if they were prepared to then Tottenham would be daft not to accept it.
Look at Duff, Newcastle were the only club prepared to pay silly money for him, Tottenham did not value him at that so did not buy him, he may be a good player but £10 million! don’t think so!
ESS always just recycle whatever minor comments they can find in the papers or on other sites, and most of them are clearly ALOB.
I prefer subscribing to the RSS feeds of specific sites and blogs that I can trust. I use NewsNow as well, but then NN turns up a lot of crap like ESS.
I dont think quality control is easy - one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, from my limited contact with NewsNow they aren’t so responsive to questions to actually take a step against unresponsible journalism. Then again, their purview is to facilitate news coverage, not censor it.
They could place a higher value on quality upon admission, but would they make the effort? I doubt it.
yeah, it gets hits - why do you think people still read The Sun? Tabloids are a sad fact of life
I agree with most of the others concerning ESS but the BBC is also reporting the Alonso story as coming from the Sunday Mirror. It’s pick and mix with the news from most sites but I like http://www.absolutelyunited.com and red issue.
Firstly, how refreshing to find a discussion forum relatively untouched by abusive and foul language, childish yaa-boo comments and ridiculous wish lists for potential signings.
As a Spurs fan, I agree with the assertion that Carrick is not worth £16 mil. His awareness and passing ability are excellent and he is better with his head than many give him credit for. However, he is not a great tackler and scored only 2 goals last season. It would be difficult to play him in central midfield with Zokora - where would that leave Jenas, Tainio, Murphy, Davids etc? I would settle for £10m plus Kieron Richardson, who would solve our left-side problem. O’Shea isn’t good enough and we already have players in the area Silvestre would cover.
I hope that Man U can give Chelsea a run for their money, and that we can knock back the non-English team with a French manager who will be playing at the Emirates Stadium.
They were right about Carrick though……….
