Sami Khedira grabbed the headline on the transfer deadline day in the summer, when reports emerged that the Red Devils had launched a bid for Real Madrid midfielder for €40 million which was rejected by Madrid.

At first, it seemed like another wild rumour to stir things up on the deadline day, but it was taken bit seriously after Khedira himself confirmed that Madrid indeed rejected any move for him.

Few days back, the Daily Mirror reported, United will compete with Arsenal to sign Khedira at the end of the season. The 26-year-old Germany international will have one year left on his contract next June, and could be available for €24m.

According to the report, Arsenal are thought to be a long term admirers of his talent. He is a close friend of Mesut Ozil and could jump at the chance of being reunited with his former team-mate. The question is does Wenger needs another central midfielder at the moment?

Chelsea were thought to be equally interested in him. Back in July, Spanish newspaper El Confidential reported that Jose Mourinho is keen to add the German midfield maestro and that the Blues would be prepared to double the player’s salary.

Khedira, who is currently sidelined with a cruciate knee injury, is thought to be unhappy at Madrid. Further, the Los Blancos have enough players in his position and if Xabi Alonso extends his contract, which is very likely, he is expected to drop down the pecking orders.

Manchester United had already tried to sign him in the summer and should go for him again after the end of the season. Fellaini, the summer signing from Everton is probably not the answer to solve United’s midfield woes and manager David Moyes must have understood that by now.

A central midfielder is yet again the first priority for the Champions. In Khedira, Moyes will get a player who has wealth of experience under his bel – regular for his national team, Champions League experience and has won titles with Madrid as well.

The problem is, he is only available after the end of the season and not in January. The situation could change for all parties in the next few months. There is no guarantee that United will finish it to the top four this season and can provide Khedira the platform of Champions League. Further, United may go for other cheap alternatives as well, whereas Khedira’s situation might change at Madrid as well. But, as it stands, Khedira would be just perfect for Manchester United, whether they can land him or not is a different question.
