Dunne to Tottenham and Richards to United?

Dunne to Tottenham and Richards to United?

There has been plenty of speculation over Richard Dunne’s future at Manchester City with the latest reports suggesting that the Manchester City captain had turned down the offer of a long-term contract, casting serious doubts over him playing for Manchester City next season.

With Tottenham, Portsmouth, West Ham and Newcastle United interested, Dunne may be sold for 5m or so. Spurs are reported to be the closest to signing Dunne but then again Spurs get linked to every player these days so it’s not exactly a ‘done’ deal. Newcastle need Dunne the most and personally I don’t think West Ham would be an attractive target for Dunne, so it’s one of Pompey and Tottenham if you look at European football as a determining criteria and Newcastle if money is going to be involved.

What’s more interesting is what will happen to Manchester City’s younger players if Dunne leaves. Despite the rumours of a summer exodus there is never going to be a mass sale but someone like Micah Richards may start to rethink his future at City if Dunne was to leave, especially if the reasons behind it are to do with the current ownership / manager situation. And if Richards was to consider a move, Manchester United could be the closest to bagging Richards this summer or the next (although Richards is a self-avowed Arsenal fan I doubt that Arsenal will be able to afford City’s asking price, Chelsea have Bosingwa and United are a more attractive proposition than Liverpool any day of the week).

Richards to Manchester United? Yes, it’s speculation. Yes, it’s tenuous and depends on Dunne actually leaving. But if it happens, this summer or the next, it would be another coup for Sir Alex and Manchester United as they would be picking up the next best young English footballer since Wayne Rooney. And he would be the perfect long-term replacement for Gary Neville in that position too.

What do you guys think? Will Dunne jump ship, and if so, will Richards follow?

  1. Dunne to Spurs - Yes okay, but forget Richards to United. Unless Thaksin wants to lose full control, that wouldnt happen

Your assessment of the Richard Dunne saga is pretty accurate especially as he has only one year left and turned down a new deal. City will not want a repeat of what happened last summer with Sylvan Distin going for nothing if they wait any longer so he will probably leave to improve the terms of his contract.

Your assessment of Micah Richards leaving however is way out of line as he was already under contract at City until 2010 but has agreed new and improved terms to keep him at the club until June 2013. You don’t sell your best players and Manchester City made sure in February this year that he will remain at the club and be an essential part of the future team that will compete in the Champions League!

M.Richards has signed an improved contract and he’ll probably stay. If united need him, City will place a heavy price tag because of the rivalry between the team + he is English + he is only 19 yo.

Dunne will surely move but I cant get why Dunne’s departure affects players like Micah to rethink.

  4. And the advantage of buying Richards would be having somebody similar to Wes Brown who can play both CB & RB.

Im a Pro Thaksin City fan so trust when i say if Thaksin even daydreams of selling any player to United i can safely say Pro will become Anti & for my part & Dr Thaksin will see a Majority of city fans ripping up their season tickets & not showing on match day, thats how hardcore a City fan i am, any City fan that would not care as much is no City fan imo.

We are not a feeder club for a Scum club like United, maybe Portugese Clubs can sh*t on themselves but not us.
