Dortmund and Leverkusen to go head-to-head for Lukas Podolski

Arsenal’s out-of-favour forward Lukas Podolski has been linked with a summer move to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. His asking price is said to be around €10M.

Bundesliga runners-up Dortmund are keen on recruiting the German international as they prepare to cope for life without their striker Robert Lewandowski – who has been linked with Bundesliga title holders Bayern Munich, La Liga runners-up Real Madrid, and Premier League champions Manchester United for a reported €35M transfer fee.

Bayer Leverkusen recently sold Andre Schurrle to Europa League winners Chelsea this summer, and view Lukas Podolski as the ideal temporary replacement. However, they are said to be more favourable of a season-long loan move for the 28-year old, which may also interest the Gunners.

The Arsenal forward has revealed his discontent with failing to make more game time per game. Podolski was subbed 23 times, while coming off the bench on 8 occasions from his 33 league games. The German international only played two games where he lasted the full 90 minutes.

Despite his lack of playing time, Podolski still managed an impressive 11 Premier League goals and a near similar number of assists for the Gunners this season.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to keep the player with the side at least a further season, but has previously admitted he wouldn’t stand in his way should the 28-year request to leave.

Dortmund are reported to be the favourites to procure his signature this summer, as manager Jurgen Klopp has long admired his impressive goalscoring prowess with the German national team (46 goals in 110 games).

With the 2014 World Cup approaching at the end of next season, Podolski will want to put himself in contention for a call-up, which could see him moving to a side willing to make him the focal point of the side.
