DONE THIS WEEK? Arsenal to complete shock £24m move for Manchester United target

Arsenal transfer news

According to reports emanating from Portugal, Arsenal are on the verge of completing a £24m move for Manchester United and Chelsea target William Carvalho, with newspaper O Jogo claiming the deal for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder could be pushed through by the end of the week.

The Gunners, who have already spent heavily this summer on the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Callum Chambers, are now said to be closing in on Carvalho, who appeared twice for Portugal during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, continuing Arsenal and Arsene Wenger’s stunning summer spending spree.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both shown an interest in the 22-year-old over the last year, with the player indicating back in March that he would be open to a move to Old Trafford in particular. However, since the sacking of David Moyes, the rumours have lessened, and with Chelsea seemingly satisfied since bringing in former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, the way is clear for Wenger to complete a deal for the Portugal international.

O Jogo report that Arsenal had a bid rejected by Sporting last month on the basis of it being a installation-based payment scheme, and that the Portuguese side are looking to receive a fee in full for their midfield powerhouse.

Carvalho is said to have a £37m buyout clause in his current contract, but if reports are to be believed, Arsenal are confident of getting their man for cheaper, with a £24m bid in full expected this week.

  1. If we can land carvalho then we might stand a better chance at least to contend for trophies this season. Go ahead Arsen bring him in and let’s end this rumours.

  2. sounds like a good piece of business but we still need a world class striker after failing to take any of the chances created yesterday.

  3. yep a lethal striker is for sure come on Arsen we are just waiting for this n our full fan support will be free of charge without which it will again be a fifty fifty situation about purposeful contention
    for trophies with opponent clubs

  4. sure wit d right kind of players nd formatn
as 4-4-2 playin wingers nd a center forwrd wit a backup striker who plays behind d main nd hvin a dm, arsenal is sure ridy winnin trophies. bring william calvaho wil be great. he wil be a great significant nd carries plenty of potentials.

  5. Landing Carvalho will surely help the gunners fight for trophies this season.bravo gunners and thanks to the manager.

  6. A marvelous addition he will be. Scezzny, koscielny, Per, Debuchy, Gibbs, Walcott, Alexis, Ramsey, Ozil, Carvalho, Campbell. Having the likes of Rosicky, Carzola, Podolsky, Wilshere, Arteta, AOC, Chamber, Flamini, Sanogo, Giroud, Akpom, Bellerin, Gnabry e.t.c. On bench. Good team

  7. To me Arsene Wenger is still not ready to contend for the Champions League. If he is, he wouldn’t still be keeping the likes of Arteta, Giroud, Monreal & Flamini in that squad. He wouldn’t also be looking out for only rejects from other clubs. A serious-minded Manager would’ve landed D Maria & Khedira at all cost.

  8. What Arsenal need at the moment are world class in Carvalo’s carlibour+also aplayer like Javy Martinez now its all about Wenger ad the board to do what catches attention of the fans.

  9. that wat u guys said wen arsene signed ozil, if u dn’t ave gud striker 2 convert d pass 2 go,No mata d amount of mildfielder u get, u ar notin
