Inter Milan have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Chelsea flop Fernando Torres on loan next season.

Italian sports daily Tuttosport reported today that Inter were given the go ahead a week ago from Chelsea for the loan of the player, with the deal moving along nicely.

The Inter hierarchy have made no secret of their desire to bring in a big-name striker next season with Torres mentioned alongside Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko as possible targets for the Serie A side.

The Serie A outfit will not feature in the Champions league next season but it is believed that Torres is looking to find his way out of Stamford Bridge at any cost.

Now it seems that the 30-year-old’s £4m salary could prove an only obstacle for Inter, despite having been bought by Indonesian billionaire businessman Erick Thohir recently.

Indeed, reports coming out of Italy suggest that Inter will ask Chelsea to significantly subsidise Torres’ wages to take him off the Stamford Bridge club’s hands and make way for striking reinforcements.

However, Inter could yet face competition for Torres’ services with speculation also linking the Spanish international with a return to former club Atletico Madrid – either on loan or as part of a deal for Diego Costa.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has repeatedly insisted that he is not happy with the current bunch of strikers he has at his disposal, and would perform the cull in order to sculpt the squad to his own taste.

Torres has cut a sorrow figure under Mourinho and has scored just four league goals this season and one can fairly imagine the Spaniard’s future at the Bridge is almost as good as over.
