Dennis Bergkamp and Arsenal - One Last Time At Ashburton Grove

Tonight, Arsenal FC pays a final tribute to perhaps its greatest #10 ever. Having graced the club’s colours for over 11 years, it is only fitting that the first match at Ashburton Grove is Bergkamp’s testimonial.

Soccerlens understands that the following format will be used for the match between Arsenal and Ajax:

The first half will feature current Arsenal players and the second will feature Arsenal players from the past. The club had tried to get the entire Double-winning squad of 1998 to play in the second half, however, professional constraints and lack of fitness for some means only Ian Wright and Lee Dixon are confirmed to appear. Patrick Vieira will also play the second half.

Ajax will feature cameos by all time legends such as Marco van Basten (who famously stated: “If Ryan Giggs is worth 20 million pounds, Dennis Bergkamp is worth a 100″) and arguably the greatest dutch player of all time, Johann Cryuff. How long Cryuff will stay on the pitch is open for debate, considering his age and the 4 packs or so he smokes every day.

As this is the first match at the Grove, capacity will be limited to 54,000 fans. The next two games will also feature the same amount, as only after three successful events will Arsenal be granted the security license, as per venue rules applicable to all sporting venues in the UK.

I would check that, because Cruijff quit smoking a long time ago.
