Wolves have struck a verbal agreement to sign Arsenal back up goal keeper Emiliano Martinez on a loan deal. The club’s head coach Kenny Jackett has confirmed that the Championship club are hoping to tie up the transfer.

The club’s official Twitter account has carried the story as well, along with the claim that ‘hopefully’ the deal will be completed on 10th August.

The 22-year-old has made only eight appearances for the Gunners, including four in the Premier League. He spent time with Championship side Rotherham last season, where he played eight times during the six-week loan spell.

According to the BBC, if Wolves can finalise the deal in time, Martinez will be drafted straight into the squad for Tuesday’s League Cup first-round tie against Newport County.

The young Argentine goal keeper wasn’t expected to feature in the Arsenal first team this season, following the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea, and David Ospina serving as the club’s second choice.

Arsene Wenger probably feels that Martinez is surplus to requirements at the moment, and it is better for the Argentine goal keeper to go out elsewhere and get regular game time under his belt at this stage of his career.
