Lazio centre-back Stefan de Vrij has dismissed the speculation regarding his Manchester United move, saying that he is happy to stay at the Serie A club.

The Netherland defender was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer of 2014 when Louis van Gaal took charge at the Old Trafford club, but the 23-year-old joined Lazio instead.

De Vrij was given his international debut by Van Gaal and he played in all the seven matches for his country during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The defender also played a key part for Lazio last season, as the Biancocelesti came third in the Serie A. De Vrij says that he has no plans to leave the capital club at the moment.

“All of us Dutch are constantly being linked with [joining] Van Gaal, but there’s nothing to it,” he told Il Messaggero, via ESPN. “I want to win with Lazio.”

De Gea tight lipped on contract clause

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea produced a stunning performance in Spain’s 1-0 win over Ukraine on Monday night.

De Gea was asked to comment on whether his new Manchester United contract has any release clause following his failed move to Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old was almost certain to leave United in the summer, but his transfer to Madrid broke down on the transfer deadline day and in turn he signed a new four year deal at Old Trafford.

It was reported soon afterwards that his new deal included a release clause around 40m which will allow him to join Real Madrid next summer.

Speaking to the media after the match, De Gea has refused to comment on whether the clause existed. The Spain goalkeeper said

“You should ask Jorge that question. He’s the one who pays attention to those details.”

De Gea was voted United’s player of the year for the past two consecutive seasons, but the Spain international feels he is enjoying the best form of his career at the moment.
