David Beckham was named the “sexiest man alive” by People magazine on Tuesday. The former England captain was unveiled as the year’s sexiest man on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The unveiling of the magazine’s cover was also done on the talk show.

He has been described by the magazine as “a global superstar, devoted husband and down-to-earth dad of four”. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the title.

Beckham was not present in person, instead, he appeared on the show via video. He was actually wearing a mask in the beginning and spoke with his voice slightly altered in an attempt to make the audience members guess his identity.

Beckham has always been known for his style on and off the pitch. However, the heartthrob maintained that he never feels like a “sexy person”.

“I never feel that I’m an attractive, sexy person,” said Beckham, via The Guardian.

“I mean I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don’t ever think of myself that way,” he said.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder joked while accepting the honor calling it “the best moment of his career” and thanked a few people for making it possible.

“I would obviously like to thank my parents for bringing me into this world,” he said. “I would also like to thank my hairdresser, my stylist, Photoshop…”
The retired footballer also wrote on his official Instagram account:
I thought I was past my sell by date but thanks to @PeopleMag for the accolade and the compliment! I always feel a little shy when receiving these Awards, though it will make my Mum happy. This one the kids will laugh at, as they see what Daddy looks like in the morning!
The 40-year-old takes the crown from Chris Hemsworth, who was last year’s winner.
Beckham has always been modest about his looks. Despite this being the first time People magazine has given him their prestigious title, Beckham has topped many such lists in the past.
However, he has always been extremely gracious and unpresuming while doing the same.
