David Beckham is suspended – won’t somebody please think of the people of Houston?

David Beckham’s yellow card against Columbus Crew last weekend meant that the former England skipper picked up an obligatory suspension. Normally this would be disappointing for the player and for his side, LA Galaxy, but the American media is more concerned that the fans of would-be opponents Houston Dynamo have missed an opportunity to see Major League Soccer’s major draw in action.

The LA Times mournfully reports: “In his first two seasons in Major League Soccer, David Beckham has played in every MLS city but one. Houston will have to wait until 2009.” The suspension – and his absence while on England duty this week – means Beckham is only likely to play one more MLS game this season.
