As football fans we follow our club(s) very closely and it’s a natural consequence that we have strong opinions about how things should be done - tactics, transfers, formations, etc.
It’s easy to pit your skills against the computer in games like Fifa 07, Pro Evolution Soccer or Football Manager, but the real test comes when you have to put your money where your mouth is and go up against real people managing clubs just like you.

Fulham have signed a new 4-year shirt sponsorship deal with Nike (a record deal for the club) and have also released photos of their new home kit for the 2007/2008 season.

I’ll cover the Nani / Anderson moves to Manchester United in much greater detail in the next couple of days, but to kick things off I just wanted to make a few observations:

I’ve said this before, but it is worth repeating - Tottenham have brought in an excellent talent in Gareth Bale, and they’ve got him at the right price as well.
Now the rumour-mill has gone into overdrive with papers suggesting that Nani is also headed towards White Hart Lane, with the Spurs set to pull off another transfer coup.
Let’s look at this rationally, shall we?

A few days back there was a rumour that Franck Ribery (Gary Neville lookalike, quality French winger and and a sureshot mover to Arsenal, amongst other things) had agreed terms with Bayern Munich and that the Owen Hargreaves deal to Manchester United was going to fund Bayern’s move for Ribery.
The move makes sense, because Bayern need good winger / attacking midfielder. It makes sense because Bayern Munich are a big club with big aspirations, and this season’s mishaps will surely not be repeated next season.
However, two things don’t make sense in this deal.

Over at Red Rants, K9 talks about Manchester United’s need for a goal poacher.
In my view, Manchester United are not going to find the next Ruud, or Beckham, or Giggs, or Scholes or Keane or Cantona. Those players were/are unique in their ability to win games for United. What Manchester United ‘can’ do is find and groom players who can win games through sheer will - stars who do more than just impress critics with their work-rate or arm-chair pundits with their ‘reputation’.
And Manchester United already have two such players - Rooney and Ronaldo.

There’s been plenty of debate and discussion on what the new Liverpool kits would look like - several fake images were circulated but Adidas were always going to wait until after the Champions League final to reveal the new Liverpool shirts, and now they’ve done exactly that, albeit in fancy effort to build some momentum / suspense going into the launch.

I really like the new Birmingham City 2007/2008 home shirt - it’s a refreshing departure from the current blue (or white) kits and the shirt design (by Umbro) is stylish and distinctive.

It is said about Sir Alex Ferguson that he has built a career out of proving people wrong. They doubted him before he won the first Premiership title with Manchester United. They doubted him when he won that famous title by ‘playing kids’. The 99 treble, The triple champions, the 2003 comeback and the 2007 title - time and time again SAF proved his critics wrong.
The same can very well be said of Sir David Beckham.

News on what Mike Ashley has planned for Newcastle United – once the takeover attempt is successfully concluded - is starting to leak out.
That’s most likely on purpose - as Ashley and his team are to attend a board meeting this coming Wednesday to review their plans for Newcastle - with the Newcastle Board and Chairman Freddie Shepherd.
We believe the board and Shepherd in particular - have little option but to accept Ashley’s offer – otherwise there will be a full scale revolt from the Newcastle fans.
