I was very pleased that Newcastle United have finally signed Oguchi Onyewu from Standard Leige on loan until the end of the season - with a view to making this a permanenet move in the summer.

News that Michael Owen is working to return to football as quickly as possible should not just worry Newcastle United fans, it should drive them to start a letter-writing campaign imploring the England star to take as long as it is necessary to recuperate.

The Guardian tells us that Ferguson and Queiroz have told Ronaldo to avoid talking to the press about any transfer rumours linking him away from Manchester United.
Notwithstanding the fact that it is sound advice (why stir up a nest of hornets), many will see this as a sign of weakness - all it goes to show is that sooner or later, the lure of playing for the Spanish giants (Real Madrid or Barcelona) will be too great.

Yes, he can. He’s got the anger, he’s got the swagger, and he’s got the talent. The thing he has over Cantona is time, and while he might not have the wisdom, he will gain it in that time.
But enough about Rooney - on to Manchester United.

Disclaimer: I don’t have the source for this (apart from a mention on the BBC site, which quotes The Sun), so don’t flame me if this didn’t actually happen
He’s old, he’s probably slow and he’s too short to be an effective threat in the Premiership. More than Sheva (who is younger and taller), Alessandro Del Piero would have been hailed as a flop and an embarrasment waiting to happen even before he would have started a game for Manchester United.

The “I’ll stay if you stay” story about Terry and Mourinho has done the rounds recently. Very touching, to say the least, and absolutely not the sort of material that should be used to poke fun at Chelsea’s troubles, but that’s the media for you.
It’s something I’ve been meaning to write about - Jose Mourinho’s man management skills and the impact of that at Chelsea.

If you’re not a Manchester United fan, ignore this
Laurent Blanc’s signing is not considered to be Ferguson’s smartest hour. However, a player’s impact is felt as much behind the scenes and on the training ground as it is on the playing field, and Blanc, like Larsson this season, was a model professional who would have greatly helped the kids at the time.

One thing that stands out in football players is the mental strength it takes to play this beautiful game. Ability it seems is nothing without will power.

The Abramovich-Shevchenko-Mourinho love triangle may be what seems to have brought Chelsea’s dominance of the Premier League to a temporary halt this season, but it could be argued that the “Special One’s evil plans were undone by something altogether different.

This is the match where the under-pressure players performed.
This is the match that showed what Liverpool are really about.
This is the match that exposes Chelsea’s lack of depth.
This is the match that could spell the end of Chelsea’s reign in English Premiership.

While the result at Tottenham on Sunday was an excellent result for Newcastle, there was no argument that Tottenham missed chance after chance, and really should have won the game rather easily.

Arsen Wenger’s decision to let Lauren move to Portsmouth is both brave and generous - and Harry Redknapp and Portsmouth will thank the Arsenal manager for it.

Progress? What progress? At our hearts we’re still a street mob baying for blood, be it the arena in Rome, witchhunts in Salem or Chelsea’s form in the 2006-2007 Premiership season.
Chelsea and Mourinho are under tremendous pressure, all of it created and exploited by the English media.

Alan Curbishley was roped in at West Ham with two objectives in mind.
The overriding, obvious target was to avoid relegation and stay in the Premiership for another season.
The second objective was to ensure that this club built a foundation on which it could begin to challenge consistenly for Europe.

Recently the media has gone bonkers with the news that Mourinho and the club management disagreed on transfer policy. In truth, that sort of disagreements happen at every club (rich or not), and to consider that Mourinho would be driven out or would leave because the club said they already have the players to make things work is ridiculous.
Seriously, if this was not Chelsea, would anyone have made such a big fuss about it?

Tottenham’s sale of Calum Davenport to West Ham is the precursor for Mathew Upson moving to Tottenham (or else, it was the most short-sighted sale ever).

Rafa Benitez can get as angry as he likes (whether he wants to blame greedy players or his own board), but if reports are to be believed Lucas Neill has opted for first team chances and a bigger pay-package at West Ham instead of the bench and a cheaper deal at Liverpool.

It is to David Beckham’s credit that whenever he’s been considered down and out, he has always returned with a bang, making a bigger impact than before, reinventing himself and laughing all the way to the bank, as it were.

In the summer of 2004, Rafa Benitez was given the task to rebuild Liverpool into a top European side once again. The idea was that Liverpool, with it’s history and pedigree, should be winning the Premiership and dominating the Champions League - something they spectacularly failed to do for quite a while.

Ed: Can Newcastle emulate their performances of last season and get in Europe after a really bad start (once again)? Let us know in the comments.
In one of the most entertaining and thrilling games of the season Newcastle United came from behind with two goals in two minutes, in the second half, to beat a strong Tottenham side 3-2 on Sunday.

Rumours that Gareth Bale had interested Manchester United, and Juve’s fantasy that Heinze would consider hopping over to a club in Serie B (which wouldn’t play the Champions League until 2008-2009, and that’s being very optimistic) has got some idiot rumour-mongers saying that Manchester United are willing to let go of Gabby Heinze if the right offer is made and if his sale can help bring in some like Mavuba or Hargreaves.
