Hi,

"They were the lucky ones - in the past few years Halifax Town, Scarborough Athletic, Telford United, Canvey Island, Farnborough and Margate have disappeared from the Conference top flight for off-the-pitch reasons. Many other teams further down the pyramid have folded or gone to the brink."

Your 2nd paragraph (above) is incorrect as Scarborough Athletic have only been in existance since June 2007 and it was in fact Scarborough F.C. which went into liquidation.

It's a shame that with the olympics focussing on Weymouth that a viable football club cannot be established. However football is not just about what happens on the pictch but more importantly how the finances are managed. Too many lower league teams seem to attract chairmen and managers looking for short term on field success. Try playing Itsagoal (online football management game) if you don't understand that finances are the key to a successful club.

As a Weymouth fan, a very good read indeed.
Our predicament at the moment is far more serious than previous times, back then we still had an asset in the land/site surrounding the ground. Our current Chairman has sold that to a company he set up, and has since sold it on again to his mates company, which I believe HE still has something to do with.

Great read Gary.

A Weymouth fan has been on VillaTalk.com today and asked us to visit http://www.saveourclub.co.uk/

It's quite similar to Macclesfield's 'pixsale'.
