How about the red card to J.Andrade when he was playing for D.Coruña agaist FC Porto in champions league??
His former Porto teammate Deco his fouled down and stays down, Andrade his trying to make Deco stop with the act and give him a little kick when Deco is still down… a perfectly normal situation if your playing with your friends or in a charity game… but, red card it was. he tried to say to the ref: “his my friend! his my friend!” but the card was already shown… After watchin that we feel sorry for him, but still, not a smart thing to do…

  3. That’s the difference between soccer and American football. Someone invaded the field of play during a Steelers/Browns game a couple of seasons ago. Steelers linebacker and future Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison hit the interloper with a picture-perfect amateur-wrestling style takedown that would have made Kurt Angle proud. No penalty for him, obviously. In fact, he got actually got props from the officiating crew and the police.

About ten years ago, Man City were playing someone, and their German striker Uwe Rosler took a dive en route to goal. The referee raised the yellow card to him, incesnsed, he shouted and waved his arms, and saw it immediately upgraded to a red.

I can’t believe that David Beckham red against Argentina in France’98 (Second round game at St. Etienne) is nowhere to be found here. A daft and stupid lash out at Diego Simeone that had Beckham being burned in efigy and condemned as hurting England’s chances (although their dodgy penalty record was just as culpable). Silly when you think about it, but I wonder how many of us wouldn’t have reacted the same, especially to someone like Simeone who knew how to try to put one past you. That it happened right in front of the Danish referee was really the point that never escaped me. Not to mention Simeone’s Oscar worthy performance to really sell it to the official.

  8. HaHaHa……fantastic article, great work. I’d like to recommend Inter Milan vs Valencia from the Champions League 2006/07 Round of 16 Match at the San Siro which ended in a mass brawl. LOL.

Actually if you notice, Neil did mention that card in his David Beckham pick (last on the page).
