Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell has admitted that he will go back to Arsenal after his national side’s World Cup campaign.

The 21-year-old was signed by the North London club from Costa Rican club Saprissa, in 2011. He has been away from the Emirates on loan, spending the last season on-loan at Olympiacos and will return and will return to the Emirates this summer.

Campbell remains hopeful that he will continue with the Gunners next season after having an impressive season with the Greek outfit during the 2013-14 season.

“Of course I have to go back because I have a contract with Arsenal, but the most important thing just now is my country and the World Cup,” Campbell told the reporters.

The Gunners forward equalised for Costa Rica during their Group D fixture against Uruguay after Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani opened the scoring for his side from the spot kick.

Costa Rica won the match 3-1 and Campbell was joined by Oscar Duarte and Marcos Urena in helping his side register a crucial win over Uruguay, who were without the services of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

“Today was excellent for me but it would have come to naught without the contribution of my colleagues. Everyone lived up to their responsibilities. I tried to do my best to score goals and my colleague supported me,” Arsenal forward said.

“We have to take one step after another. We have difficult matches ahead but this will give us impetus,” Campbell concluded.

The Costa Rican international would be hoping to impress Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with his performance in the ongoing World Cup to seal a place in the Gunners’ squad for the next season.

Campbell got his work permit last summer, which has made him eligible to feature for the Emirates club. Since joining Arsenal, the forward has is yet to feature for the Gunners.
