That explains it - I've never read Fever Pitch (I'm not a fan of Hornby).

Enjoy the game tonight. It's days like these any football fan savours, especially those in the Conference, and is all the sweeter if you've travelled a way to watch a great result.

From a neutral's point of view a draw or close win would set up the second leg nicely.

I really couldn't call which team will go up though - all four are capable of doing it.

thanks for your comments - yes, hornby wrote a whole chapter on supporting CUFC in Fever Pitch. Lets hope for a good game with a narrow CUFC win.. by the way, my son and daughter are also fans - daughter in Sheffield (i live in pontypool, south wales). Cheers!

I have watched Cambridge a couple of times on Setanta and once live, and while there's not as much long ball as John Beck, the games I watched were still up, under, nab a goal and defend, although you did it well and have a very good defence.

Bias towards Burton? You what? I've got no preference towards either team. Both have come on leaps and bounds this season and it'll be a close game. Having re-read what I've written, I really can't see where the bias, bar me not being overly impressed with the style of play whenever I've watched them.

All I'm hoping is it'll be a decent game and, if I'm honest, as long as Burton aren't more than two ahead at the end of the first leg, I can see Cambridge winning this one.

As for celeb fans - apologies, I really didn't know about Hornby. I'd written most of the piece on Wednesday night but didn't have time to finish that bit, then work, train and didn't get in until late last night and had some local election stuff to do, so I had to rely on a bit of googling. It's still the first time I've ever heard about Hornby though, but regardless, I stand corrected.

you obviously have not been watching cambridge united much this season or researched info for your article. Yes, we have the meanest defence in the conference but our best performances have been achieved by moving the ball around. The long ball era was John Beck's but everyone still tars us with that brush! Also we have come back from 1-0 down numerous times this season - i.e. successfully chased the game. I hope the ref for the match does not show the same bias to burton as the writer of this article - cos if he does, cambridge won't stand a chance!

Celebrity fans?! How about Nick Hornby, writer of the best book ever about being a football fan - "Fever Pitch", who supports Cambridge after his beloved Arsenal. Again, not much research into the mighty U's!
