william-carvalhoManchester United are edging towards in signing in the form of William Carvalho after Sporting hinted the midfielder could leave the club this summer.

Earlier we reported the Red Devils’ representatives are in Portugal in signing the €45m midfield sensation. The Primera Liga club’s director of football Augusto Ignacio admitted the Old Trafford outfit have to meet the player’s release clause.

Sporting chief says that he is pleased with the ongoing negotiations and claims the Portuguese side will be able to replace Carvalho for the next season.

“It’s not like the old days when players left Sporting at any price. We are not concerned with William Carvalho because we have alternatives, who will want to play as well,” The Mirror reported Ignacio as saying.

“The termination clause ensures a great deal to Sporting. I am very pleased with the negotiations.”

“It is not easy to negotiate for players, you need to be very shrewd but Sporting have a president who knows how to negotiate with anyone and what is best for the club,” Sporting chief added.

United’s midfield has been lacking quality in the past few years and their struggle during the last campaign has forced them to invest heavily in strengthening the heart of the midfield in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have already signed Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao last month as a part of the squad re-build. In addition to this, United acquired Luke Shaw’s signature. Should Carvalho agree terms with the Premier League giants, he would be the third signing of this summer.
