He was selected by Capello for his first squad. Kirkland asked to be removed from consideration saying that if he couldn't be 100% relied upon for his country he didn't want to be picked. He also has problems when he travels by air or bus, something he would have to do a lot at a World Cup. He has been exceptional and I've been amazed so many pundits have over-looked him. In his first season with us he was very good but had some of the rushes of blood that the likes of David James and Robert Green seem to show. However, for the past year he has been fantastic. He shows leadership on the field, makes the right decisions, comes cleanly for crosses and is an excellent shot-stopper. Everything you need to be an England number one.
