AC Milan reportedly are unwilling to pay a single penny for Marco van Ginkel, on loan singing from Chelsea, as injuries have curtailed the Dutch midfielder’s season so far.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined Chelsea in 2013 from Dutch club Vitesse but could only manage two games for the Blues, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his first season.

With Chelsea opting for ready made stars and the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic being asked the anchor the midfield, Van Ginkel was rightly sent on loan to AC Milan to further his development.

He was slowly returning back to his old form at his new club, but couple of serious ankle injury has left his season in tatters.

Milan signed Van Ginkel for a €1m loan this summer; the price would have been half if the Dutchman played at least 20 games.

However, Tuttosport reports, via Football Italia that Milan will not pay any fee to Chelsea, as Van Ginkel’s injury has restricted his appearances to only five games.

Chelsea have had bad experience of having players suffering from ACL injuries; for instance Michael Essien never really returned to his best form for Chelsea and was eventually sold by the club.

Will the same happen with Van Ginkel? Does he have a long term future at the club? Or like other loanee will he suffer the same fate at Chelsea?
