Chelsea goalkeeper Marco Amelia has claimed that he would like to stay at the club and be a part of Antonio Conte’s project.

The Italian was signed on a free transfer last season when Courtois got injured but the former Milan keeper has not had a chance to prove his worth yet. Amelia knows that he is far from first choice at Stamford Bridge, but he is ready to work with Conte.

Amelia told Corriere dello Sport: “My future? Still early to say, in July I’ll start thinking about it. Meanwhile, I’m delighted to have had this experience. ”

“I have had calls came from Italy, clubs in Serie A and B, but if there was a chance, I’d love to stay and be a part of this project.”

Amelia also revealed his admiration for the new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte. The Italian claimed that the former Juventus manager is a winner and his record speaks for volumes about him.

“His winning mentality fits well with the philosophy of the club.”

“The results speak for him. The team is full of champions, he’ll have to work on the head and psychological factor”, he said.

If Amelia stays he will be the third choice keeper after Courtois and Begovic. It is really hard to see how he can get some playing time at Chelsea.

Amelia is 34 and needs to play at this stage of his career. Staying at Chelsea basically ends his first team opportunities for good.
