Jose Mourinho and Cuadrado: Player failed to make any impact last season

Jose Mourinho wants to salvage every penny he can for Juan Cuadrado, by selling the Colombian just six months after buying him from Fiorentina. Spanish newspaper Superdeporte has reported that the manager has sought help from his agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate a deal with possible suitors for the winger.

Cuadrado was one of the most-sought after players in Europe last season, but after signing for Chelsea in the January transfer window, failed to adapt to the Premier League. He made 14 appearances in all competitions as the Blues won the Premier League and the League Cup. His personal return though, was far from impressive, as he failed to register a single goal or assist.

He continues to be a regular with his national side though, playing every game in Colombia’s Copa America campaign in Chile recently. It was in the World Cup in Brazil last year where he first caught the eye, and was reportedly a top target for Manchester United in the summer of 2014.

The club mentioned as the next possible destination for Cuadrado is Valencia, with whom Mendes works closely with. The Spanish side finished 4th in La Liga last season, clinching the final Champions League spot in the process.

It is reported that one of the options being considered by Mendes is a one-year loan deal coupled with an option to buy. But Chelsea are desperate for a permanent transfer, as they fear that one more poor season could see the 27 year-old’s value fall even further.

If Cuadrado were to leave though, Chelsea will almost surely bring in another attacking midfielder. Mohamed Salah’s agent has already confirmed, as reported here by Gianluca Di Marzio, that following his loan at Fiorentina, the Egyptian is looking to continue in the Serie A. This means that Mourinho will have absolutely no back-up to Oscar, Eden Hazard and Willian.
