Chelsea Transfer: Mourinho on a mission

Falcao spent last season on loan at Manchester United and ended the season without making any significant impact. However, it seems Mourinho has chalked out a plan for him to shine at Chelsea.

Mourinho stated that Falcao might not play as a lone striker like he did at United and could be used in a two striker formation with Diego Costa.

“In the last 20 minutes against Barcelona (in last week’s friendly we played with Loic Remy and Falcao,” Mourinho said.

“They did very well not just to bring the team forward but also with one less player in midfield they closed the spaces in front of the midfield line. We can play with two.”

“Falcao came on and suddenly the team was direct and objective. They closed the lines and played in the opposition half. Falcao held the ball up very well.

“I’m very happy with his first week. I like him a lot as a player. The team play very well with a striker of his quality.

“He’s not just a guy that can score a goal; he can also contribute a lot to the quality of the game.”

Chelsea Transfer: Benefits everyone

Despite his struggles, Falcao is an outstanding footballer and goalscorer. Using him in a duo with Costa would benefit him and the side in many ways.

Not only will it relieve the goalscoring burden for Falcao, it will allow him more space to in and outside the box with Costa occupying the markers.

Furthermore, Falcao’s movement will draw defenders out for Costa to attack.

Mourinho’s plan seems like a perfect one on paper, however it remains to be seen how well it can be executed.

Furthermore, with two strikers upfront, Eden Hazard can finally operate in a free role behind them, which would make the Chelsea attack lethal in possession as well as counters.

Mourinho’s plan suggests a narrow diamond for Chelsea next season with Fabregas and Oscar as the engines and Matic holding the midfield.
