Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is looking to sign a defender this summer and the Napoli centre back Kalidou Koulibaly is a target for the Blues.

The highly rated defender has been a target for Manchester United as well. The Old Trafford outfit even submitted a bid for him earlier this year.

According to latest reports, Chelsea have submitted a 38 million pounds bid for the Senegal defender. Koulibaly is apparently on top of Chelsea’s transfer wishlist right now and the player’s agent has fuelled further speculations by claiming that his client has decided to complete a transfer away from Napoli this summer.

He also claimed that Koulibaly will not join another Italian rival like Higuain, therefore hinting at a Chelsea transfer.

He said: “Chelsea still want him and there’s time to close the deal. We’ve decided to leave for economic reasons. After what happened to Higuain, though, Kalidou will not be leaving for Juventus or another competitor.”

Chelsea desperately need a centre back with John Terry regressing rapidly and the inconsistency of Cahill and Ivanovic. Kurt Zouma remains the only reliable defender at the club, but it will be interesting to see how he performs post recovery from a horrible injury.

Koulibaly has been one of the best defenders in Serie A over the last season and would be a tremendous addition for the Blues.
