Chelsea striker target ‘to stay in Paris’, Spurs missed out on maestro over 500k
Chelsea will have to cross another potential attacking reinforcement off the list, after Edinson Cavani’s agent today rubbished claims that the Uruguayan was set for a move from PSG this January.
Ever since the 26-year-old’s move from Napoli to PSG, speculation has been rife over his supposed unhappiness in the French capital, stemming from the frustration of constantly being played out of position by manager Laurent Blanc.
But now his agent - speaking on Italian TV station, Football Clan - has said that there is no truth in the rumours linking him away from the Parc De Princes,
“There is nothing that is brewing. He remains in Paris,” said Cavani’s agent, Claudio Anellucc,
“He’s fine. Miss Napoli? No. It was a nice chapter, like the one in Palermo, but he goes on always trying to improve as a player and his experience. Paris is an important moment for him.”
If Chelsea were keeping tabs on the hit-man, this will come as a bitter blow, and the Blues will have to turn their attention elsewhere to acquire that ‘killer’ striker Jose Mourinho so obviously craves.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Tottenham lost out on the signing of Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho after trying to haggle down the price a further 500k.
The Telegraph has published a report on the ‘distant’ relationship between chairman Daniel Levy and the now-deposed boss Andre Villas-Boas; in which they say that a €31m bid for Moutinho failed due to the thriftiness of the club officials.
A maddening claim, one that will frustrate Spurs fans everywhere. Moutinho was to be Luka Modric’s replacement, continue the Telegraph, who left White Hart Lane in 2012. The Moutinho sale was an ’11th hour’ replacement, and Villas-Boas was ‘devastated’ not to have signed his compatriot and former Porto charge.
It was just one of a number of issues between the manager and chairman, all of which equated to Villas-Boas being dismissed yesterday afternoon.
What do you think? Would Moutinho have made a difference to Spurs? Who will Chelsea target after the Cavani snub? Let me know in the comments below…
