Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has squashed rumours regarding his move to Italian side Inter Milan in the summer.

The Nigerian has been linked with the Nerazzurri for quite some time but Mikel’s agent Olatunji John Shittu has denied all the speculations linking a switch for his client.

“It’s all part of the usual transfer speculation. As far as I’m concerned, nothing like that will be happening. It is only a rumour and we heard a similar story about him going to Galatasaray last season.”

“Mikel is a fighter who wants to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea.”

Inter’s new owner Erick Thohir has claimed that he will spend this summer to make the club competitive once again for the Serie A title next season. The 43-year old Indonesian has plans to continue rebuilding till Inter would be back in the Champions League.

“Inter are now in a transitional phase, nine players will be reaching the end of their contracts and we will evaluate these situations. For some, we will be renewing their agreement. However, we must add some players so we can be more competitive in the Serie A and Champions League.”

Mikel has featured sparingly for Chelsea this season making only 10 starts and has come off the bench 16 times scoring a solitary goal and grabbing an assist for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

He is also believed to be surplus to requirements for manager Jose Mourinho, who has brought in former player Serbian Nemanja Matic from Benfica in January. With Ramires and Frank Lampard also in the rooster, Mikel has fallen down further in the pecking order for the Blues.
