Chelsea should give Terry a long break

Written by Ahmed Bilal. Tagged: Chelsea

John Terry needed more time off after his surgery, but for Chelsea’s sake he had to return. That move has spectacularly backfired, with Terry injured again and out for 6 weeks.

Chelsea will miss Terry at the Carling Cup final and against Porto in the Champions League while England will miss him in England (even though Woody and Rio do fine as a defensive pairing).

The problem is though, that depending on Chelsea’s league and CL fortunes, Terry could AGAIN be rushed back into service. That’s not a good idea, and in the long run that is jeopardising Terry’s career and at the very least, the start of next season.

If you’re unfit / lack match practice and are rushed back into service, the same injury may not occur again but you could get another type of injury. Michael Owen had this problem in the World Cup, Thierry Henry is crocked again (although if that’s the excuse for his poor form then why the hell is Wenger playing him?) and Terry had a similar problem against Porto on Wednesday.

Give Chelsea a break and get him ready for next season? With another central defender that would have been possible, but for now that’s not an option. Essien will play at centre-back and Mourinho will hope that Sheva’s goals keep coming.

For all of Mourinho’s desire to build a balanced team, Chelsea are far too reliant on Terry, and need him back as soon as possible.

  1. i know you desperately want people to view your story and therefore it has to be as headline grabbing as possible but really this is nothing other than pure drivel from you yet again!! Sadly, I am aware that I am probably only assisting your cause by responding…

Please explain on what basis do you claim terry lacked match fitness and was rushes back into the team?? he had already completed two full matches before porto. The guy was just unlucky with his injury which was totally unrelated to his previous back injury. Do some research before you write trash again please

  2. two full matches (in which mourinho himself admitted that he was bringing terry back earlier than he would have after such surgery) are not enough for match fitness, especially if you’ve come back early AND if you’ve had the type of surgery terry had.

If a player is not match-fit he runs a greater risk of injury. That, my friend, has nothing to do with drivel or with getting hits.

Chelsea posts dont give much hits mate, not enough fans maybe? :P

  3. A first for me but I agree. JT has looked terrible in every match he’s played in. He can’t run, he can’t jump, he looks lost on the pitch. He needs to get himself properly fit.

There’s even a case for saying Chelsea have found a way of playing without him. Give him the rest he’s earned.

  4. holy shit

    Sid agreeing with me?

There’s hope for humanity after all…

what’s that they say about monkeys and shakespeare? :P
