Chelsea should be praised for their resilience

Written by Ahmed Bilal. Tagged: Chelsea

In the last 3 and a half years, it’s been very easy to badmouth Chelsea. Obscene wealth (obscene being in the eye of the beholder) is cause enough for jealousy, and jealousy bears bitterness.

I don’t care how ‘rational’ your arguments are against Chelsea and their money - it’s nothing more than a railing against the inequality of wealth, where YOUR club lacks the funds necessary to compete with Chelsea.

This season has seen Chelsea combat with a number of injuries to critical personnel. Any other club and you would have sympathised with their plight, but Chelsea’s misery has been everyone’s cause for joy. Never mind that they have not gone into free-fall but instead held their own despite the injuries. Never mind that Chelsea are still in with a chance (remote, but still a chance) to win the title.

Wealth does not buy you resilience - only players and managers can give that to you, and Chelsea should be praised for the resilience they have shown in the face of adversity in the last few months.

Having said that, you guys still aren’t winning the title, so stop talking about it :)

  1. chelsea are a true football team and chelsea players do not play for money its all about team spirit and love for the game which is known as the football chelsea rulz

  2. Chelsea have bought their resilience. They, out of all the teams in the Premiership, cannot complain about injuries. Joses’ policy of two world class players in every position (and then some)was imposed to combat this. Glenn Rhoder has never used Newcastles’ horrendous injury list as an excuse - and they have nowhere near Chelseas strength in depth or talent pool.
The hatred for Chelsea is based on three things for me, one is they haven’t developed into a great team, they have just bought the best available. United created their wealth by playing exiting football, having a good youth policy and clever marketing. Arsenal developed their team by shrewd buying and bringing young players into the squad early in their careers.
The second reason is that with all that money swilling around, all that footballing talent at their disposal, they are about as interesting to watch as paint drying.
As for Sohams comment - are you real? Chelsea players do not play for money…If Ballack or Robben were playing for the love of the game they would have signed for United - much more about winning the right way. Chelsea have ruined SWP and Glenn Johnson, why? because they went for the money, not the football. Duff and Gudjonsen saw the light and went to play at teams where the love of the game and playing the right way is still important.
The last reason is Jose - I personally find him very entertaining - but what really gets me is his lack of good grace when they don’t win. I think that this puts a lot of peoples backs up. I think a lot of people like it when he says things that everyone is thinking about the games administrators, but he needs to learn to give credit where it’s due and realise that a Russian con mans money doesn’t give him the divine right to win every game / trophy.

  3. RedRick… it is for lovely you that Ahmed wrote in his article….”I don’t care how ‘rational’ your arguments are against Chelsea and their money”…. So please stop beating about the bush. Bottom line is - they didn’t evolve into a great club but quite spontaneously became one. In fact, Chelsea’s rise has been so quick and oligarch-ish that its understandable why people just couldn’t digest the change. As for youth system, marketing, scouting bollocks bla bla its all happening now…. Abramovich is a businessman, and then, a football fan.

Duffy and Gudy left because they wanted first team action. In Chelsea, likes of Terry, Makelele, Lampard, Essien and Drogba play every match…. while players like Robben, Cole, Bridge don’t get to play every match. So Duff and Gudjonsen knew where they stood. Just a matter of high standards.

“a Russian con mans money….” -> Ahmed wrote: “Obscene wealth…. is cause enough for jealousy, and jealousy bears bitterness.” :)
