Chelsea have been rocked by a double injury blow to Brazilian midfielder Ramires and club captain John Terry.

Both players were taken off during Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Maccabi in Israel last night. John Terry had to be stretchered off in the second half.

Mourinho has confirmed that Ramires and Terry have both picked up injuries but the extent of the injuries can only be determined after a scan.

The Portuguese manager was furious with the condition of the pitch and blamed the turf for the injuries. He was also spotted covering holes on the pitch with grass and stamping on them.

‘I was saying before, such a beautiful stadium, such a fantastic public,’ said the Chelsea boss. ‘They deserve a better surface because the surface was bad and dangerous.

‘We trained on it just a little bit. We tried to protect ourselves. But by my surprise, Maccabi trained after us. Plus the warm-up before the game, the pitch was really bad.

‘Ramires slid and has a muscular injury. John has an ankle injury I think down to the pitch, and we don’t know how bad it is yet.

‘For John to leave the pitch with the score at 1-0, I know already that he’s in trouble.

‘To be fair, my medical department is really good and John is a special guy with a special desire to recover, but to leave the pitch with the result 1-0, I don’t believe too much that he can play on Sunday.’

Ramires picked up muscle injury and John Terry was taken off with an ankle injury.

Considering Chelsea’s defensive crisis this season, Terry’s injury will come as a massive blow for Chelsea who are now down to five defenders in total – Ivanovic, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Cahill and Baba Rahman.

Papy Djiloboli is expected to be moved on soon and Baba Rahman is yet to get a fair chance since his move to England.

It seems Jose Mourinho might have to dip into the transfer market this January in search of a centre back.

Chelsea are also looking to recall their young defender Michael Hector from loan in January.
