Paris Saint Germain took control of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Chelsea on Wednesday night, with a 3-1 win putting them in the driving seat ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge next week.

Urged on by the ardent Parc des Princes faithful, Laurent Blanc’s side, through goals from Ezequiel Lavezzi, an own-goal by David Luiz and Javier Pastore’s silky finish late on, took one step into the semi-finals. But it is certainly not beyond Chelsea’s reach to progress on Tuesday, mainly through Eden Hazard’s crucial penalty – the vital away goal.

Here are the Chelsea player ratings from the Parc des Princes:

Petr Cech – 7/10

Cech, apart from his ineffective dealing of Pastore’s goal, was a safe pair of hands in goal, producing important saves, most notably from Lavezzi.

Branislav Ivanovic – 6/10

The Serb was assured at right-back, retaining his propensity to venture forward and provide another option in attack.

Gary Cahill – 6/10

The England man fared well, stifling the lethal powers of PSG’s attack for the most part of the match.

John Terry – 6/10

Apart from his misplaced header which led to Lavezzi’s emphatic volley, Terry managed well against Cavani and Ibrahimovic.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 6/10

The Spaniard could have done better in the build-up to Pastore’s damaging goal, PSG’s third on the night, but was otherwise relatively assured.

Ramires – 6/10

The Brazilian, who will miss the second-leg through suspension, was energetic in central midfield, hassling Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi into wayward passes.

David Luiz – 6/10

Luiz’ own-goal, while he was unable to sort his feet, was unfortunate with Lavezzi’s free-kick delivery whipped in with such pace and his view obstructed by the cluster of bodies ahead of him.

Willian – 8/10

The Brazil international was superb, attacking with real vigour. He ran the ageing Maxwell ragged with his speed and adept trickery. His chipped pass, to find Hazard who hit the post, was wonderful.

Oscar – 7/10

Oscar, for the 72 minutes in which he featured in, was splendid, particularly in the first-half. The Brazilian earned the penalty from which Hazard dispatched after a rash challenge from Thiago Silva.

Eden Hazard – 9/10

The Belgian was wonderfully nimble, creative and strong. He effectively held up the ball, drifted beyond opposition and caused PSG right-back Jallet all sorts of problems.

His ability to turn up for the big nights will be encouraging for Jose Mourinho, and so will his priceless composure, unfazed by the intimidation from the Parisien support, as he sent Sirigu the wrong way for his penalty.

Andre Schurrle – 5/10

The German international failed to influence proceedings and was duly replaced by Torres after 58 minutes.

Subs:

Frank Lampard – 5

The England midfielder should have coped better with Pastore’s skilful dribble.

Fernando Torres – 5

Just like the man who he replaced (Schurrle), the Spaniard was unable to impact proceedings.

  1. If mikel had made David luis blunders the English press wud ve made much noise out of it..

  2. I don’t agree with this ratings especially Ramires. He should be rated 2. He was no where in the game

    • Its lyk mourinho dont knw when 2 use lampard nd when 2 use oscar. What a devastating subtitution lampard 2 km in for oscar? All my expectation is mikel or lampard for remires. Bcos he lak confidence after his yellow card. Mou shld stdy his players even in d field nt just during training. It cost us a lot!

  3. I dont knw y mou uses torres n shurrle, they were lost in d game. D 3rd goal was realy a joke n d strike force was poor.

  4. Aden, u understood everything precious said dont claim 2 be smart

  5. Mourinho looks like a destroyer of future than a builder of career. Mikel thought he did well for Mata but it’s not so. Also he wants to destroy Mikel’s career by fielding the players he’s better than(Matic, Luiz, ageing Lampard, Ramires). Mikel was second best to Messi in 2005, this same Mourinho brought to nothing and now he’s destroying him…Let’s take a good look at the last confedration cup, analyse it and tell the world which Chelsea midfielders played to his starndard…..

    • let stop critisicing MOU but Mikel himself. Are u telling me it is must for Mikel to retire @ chelsea, why cant he go to other club where he can have much playing time or is he affraid of being flop, if yes it means we shouldn’t be complain and he knw weather he play very well for his club or not there is Authomatic shirt for him in Super Eagle. I see Mikel as d enemy of himself by not have confidence in himself

      • Good comment

        • I am not talking about Mikel alone but fielding the right players. If you say Mikel should go and prove himself in another club, tell Me that a player that has played under more than 5 coaches is not good….Matic was in Chelsea with Mikel b4 he was loned out Lampard is ageing Ramires has more eye on goal than his role….Mikel is not the one to sell himself but the club and don’t forget Chelsea is not a small club too. So, which other club should he go to…..

  7. Let’s comment about our team performance not for mourihno for not field mikel, chelsea club have many players,so coach only know to select 11 players, so he knows all his players perform, others are slow, weak, but mikel is better than matic, so if we want all chelsea players to be in field let’s write a letter to fifa to add more playing players in field from 11 to 30 players maybe we can stop blame coaches for not field other players

  8. Well,d game was lovely…Hazard actualy worked according to his name,Mikel is not always use because Mikel likes sending his balls backward instead of forward..Mou knows what he is doing, lets see the outcome of next weeks return leg at STANDFORD BRIGDE
