Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insisted recently (after signing Filipe Luis) that the Blues had completed all their transfer businesses in the summer. Whether they will sign anymore players before the transfer window closes remains to be seen, but if the reports from Spain are to believed, Chelsea are plotting an audacious move to sign Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian defender Miranda, who is also a reported target of Manchester United.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United heavily this summer. Back in May, the player himself revealed that he was negotiating offers with several Premier League clubs, while El Confidencial in June claimed that Manchester United were set to trigger his 30m release clause. AS further claimed that the Brazil international had even started to find schools in Manchester for his children.

Probably, there was an interest. And a strong one. But the deal didn’t materialise. According to our observation, Atletico are unwilling to do any business unless his release clause is met. And the Rojiblancos have a valid reason for it. Having already sold two of their best players last season, it’s imperative they would be trying to hold on to their other star players, if not, at least would be looking to get the best values out of the transfers so that they can re-invest in the squad properly.

Today, Marca claim that Chelsea have also joined the party and have submitted a €25m offer for the defender. However, as with the cases of other interested clubs, the Blues were told to cough up at least €5m more to enter into any sort of negotiations.
