Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his midfield next season and has set his sight upon Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes.

The former Benfica midfielder, who has been the creative fulcrum for Los Che this season, has scored four goals so far and will be a perfect fit for the Blues.

Gomes’ good performances for Valencia hasn’t gone unnoticed, with scouts of big European clubs have watched him almost every weekend this season.

Mourinho has been following him for some time now and his fine relationship with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, could make the case more interesting next summer.

Valencia owner Peter Lim paid €15m for Gomes in January 2013, and will be asking a fee around €50m (his release clause) if any big European club want to sign him.

According to Plaza Deportiva.com, Chelsea chief scout in Spain, Vicente Fernandez, has followed Gomes several times at Mestella this season and he is highly impressed with what he saw.

However, Chelsea are not the only club to have followed the youngster, reports suggest, Manchester United have also watched him regularly this season.

Gomes is a technically sound midfielder who can only get better under from here on.

Will Chelsea or United pay such hefty transfer fee for him? Probably not…
