Ivanovic has picked up a hamstring injury with Serbia

Chelsea and Jose Mourinho have been dealt another blow after Branislav Ivanovic picked up a hamstring injury playing for his country.

The Serbian started the game against Albania in the Euro Qualifiers and has now been replaced after picking up an injury.

Although Ivanovic is going through a rough patch at the moment, the Serbian is a key player and has already captained the side for Mourinho, this season.

Ivanovic was one of the finest full backs in the world last season and regardless of his dip in form, he is an asset to Chelsea.

Furthermore, Chelsea’s lack of alternatives mean that Mourinho will have to field an inexperienced or makeshift back four against Aston Villa.

The most obvious move in this situation would be to reinstate Azpilicueta as the right back and bring Baba Rahman into the first team as a left back.

The Augsburg full back impressed with the Blues, in the Champions League earlier this season and would relish the chance to prove himself in the Premier League.

Furthermore, if Baba Rahman can impress Mourinho against Villa, Chelsea might just have found their alternative to Ivanovic, as long as the Serbian is struggling.

It will be interesting to see what Mourinho does against Villa. Also, the full extent of the injury is yet to be discovered, so a recovery cannot be ruled out just yet.
