Positive news on Chelsea star’s knee injury

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has given a positive update on his knee injury, saying he should be back in action in December.

The Belgium international made only three Premier League appearances this season before he tore his meniscus in his right knee during training in September.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that Courtois would be out for “quite a long time” as he revealed the Belgian would require surgery in his right knee.

Courtois has now revealed that his rehabilitation from a knee injury is going smoothly and he should return to actions at the earliest if everything goes according to plans.

“In terms of my knee, it’s good,” Courtois told reporters, via ESPN. “I’m doing my rehabilitation and it’s progressing well.

“From tomorrow [Wednesday], I’ll be starting the bulk of the work with my physio to come back as soon as possible.

“Of course I still have to be careful not to go too quickly. I should be back in December, all being well.”

Former Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has deputised since the injury. The Bosnia-Herzegovenia international is an experienced Premier League goalkeeper, but with Chelsea’s defence currently in disarray, he has found it difficult to keep a clean sheet.

The Blues have conceded 11 goals in five Premier League games when Begovic has started and have lost three of those matches. Chelsea have struggled badly in Courtois’ absence and Mourinho will want his top shot-stopper back as soon as possible.

Chelsea will be without defender Branislav Ivanovic for their next Premier League game against Aston Villa. The defender picked up a hamstring injury last week whilst on international duty for Serbia.

According to latest reports, Ivanovic will be out for at least three weeks. In his absence, young left back Abdul Rahman Baba may get a chance to impress his manager.
