Chelsea Transfer: Club demand €35m for midfielder

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel lost his starting place to Nemanja Matic last season and he made only six league starts all season for the Blues.

Mikel has been at the club since 2006, but he is longer a regular starter for Chelsea, having played only 700 minutes of football all season last term. He divides opinion among the fans, and there is a growing feeling that he could be sold in the summer.

Jose Mourinho probably rates him highly and that’s why despite his limited role in the side, Chelsea are demanding a transfer fee in the region of €35m for him.

According to reports in Turkey, Fenerbahce, who have already signed Manchester United duo Nani and Robin van Persie, are looking to add Mikel to their ranks. However, they have to forfeit the chase, as the club cannot afford to meet Chelsea’s valuation of the player.

Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim said to the reporters: “Chelsea want €35 million for Mikel.”

According to reports in Italy today, Serie A champions Juventus are keen to sign Juan Cuadrado. The Colombian winger joined Chelsea in the January transfer window, but had failed to make any significant impression.

It has been widely reported that Mourinho would be willing to sell Cuadrado, provided the fee is right. Tuttosport claim that Chelsea have slapped a €34-35m for Cuadrado, and the Blues will want the payment directly, as the London club are not looking to send him on loan.
