Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that there has been no bid for Napoli striker Gonazalo Higuain, and that there are no plans to bring a striker to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

Speaking at a Chelsea press conference today, the Portuguese boss insisted that he is happy with the strikers he has, and that they are enough to be be able to compete on all fronts.

“A striker? 100% no.” Mourinho said bluntly when asked about his January plans,

“(It is) not a priority, not an option…we have three.”

The Daily Telegraph reported today that the Blues have had a £50m offer for Napoli’s Higuain rejected, but Mourinho denied that a bid had ever been lodged,

“He is a player that I know well, that we cannot get,” said the Chelsea manager,

“Napoli want to win the Scudetto, they want to win the Europa League. I don’t believe they’re interested in selling Higuain.”

Asked if he was happy with his squad overall, the 50-year-old replied cryptically that he was content, but only for his first season.

“This squad is good enough for my first season, and for the objectives for the first season, and to prepare for the next season. If we can improve the squad (in the summer), then we will.”

The Chelsea boss also addressed the rumours surrounding Juan Mata, saying that the reportedly unsettled Spaniard was positive during training today,

“[Mata trained] in a fantastic way,” Mourinho said,

“I think he is focused on [when I said] ‘I don’t want him to leave”.

What do you think? Will Mata leave Chelsea? Do you agree with Mourinho’s ‘no new striker’ stance? Let me know in the comments below…
