Chelsea and Arsenal target Hakan Calhanoglu to stay in the summer
Chelsea and Arsenal have been dealt a massive blow in their pursuit of Hamburg attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu as the German club revealed that they won’t be selling their prized asset in the summer.
The 20-year-old has established himself as one of the most promising players in the Bundesliga this season scoring 10 goals and grabbing 3 assits in 24 appearances for Hamburg.
Turkish Newspaper Gazete Karsi had earlier reported that Chelsea were interested in the 20 year old with a £13m bid lined up in the summer. Arsenal are also interested in the Turkish star who has shown dazzling brilliance in Germany.
Both the London clubs are looking to looking to bolster their striking departments and the Turkish International proves a cut cost option given his versatility on the pitch to play as a winger striker.
Calhanoglu however has a contract at Hamburg to keep him at the Imtech Arena until 2018 and the club’s General Manager Oliver Kreuzer insists they have no plans to sell their prized asset.
“Selling Hakan is definitely not an option,” Kreuzer told Hamburger Morgenpost.
Calhanoglu’s agent Bektas Demirtas also played down talks linking his client with a move away from Germany saying the midfielder is happy at the club and aims to finish the season on a high.
“We have not been receieving official enquiries from any club with regard to Hakan’s future. Nothing serious, no single club. There is also no reason as Hakan wanted to sign a long-term deal at Hamburg in February. He feels at home at the club. We would only start considering if Hamburg start negotiations with another club.”
