Chelsea - Arsenal Brawl Video

Written by Ahmed Bilal. Tagged: Arsenal - Carling Cup - Chelsea

A couple of things to add from yesterday:

The more I see the video (below), the more I’m convinced that Toure deserved his red card and Mikel only a yellow. The penalty for tugging on someone’s shirt and then not falling over when pushed is a red - if Mikel had done a Wayne Bridge and gone down like he’d been shot, the whole incident would have been seen in a different light.

As for Lamps and Fab, I think Fabregas deserved a definite red. He had totally lost it - Lampard, I’m not so sure. He should have had a yellow, for getting involved, but not for what happened after that.

Mourinho was right yesterday when he said that Arsenal players had acted out of frustration - the fact that Wenger chose to blame the ref and talked about the need for remaining calm the next time around (instead of talking about Chelsea) spoke volumes.

Toure’s reaction was surprising, Fab’s not so much so. He’s a hothead, albeit a very talented hothead. There’s no point in making this bigger than it is - a playground tussle, nothing more.

Kudos to Mourinho and Wenger for going on the pitch. That, and the way both sides were trying to stop tussle instead of getting their punches in.

Once again the FA is waiting for the ref’s report before taking any action - at the very least, Adebayour’s red card should be rescinded, Fabregas and Lampard given reds (if you’re going to red card Mikel, you might as well red card those two), the two clubs warned and that’s that.

  1. your not chelsea biased much are you

  2. I was actually hesitating to put this post up, because I didn’t want to come across as anti-Arsenal. But Toure was out of line, and so was Fabregas. That’s there for everyone to see, but hopefully both clubs can put it behind them and concentrate on playing football again.
  3. As far as I could see Mikel did nothing other than foul Toure who went ballistic and attacked him.Lampard tried to separate them and Fabragas then attacked Lampard, Adebeyor was throwing his arms everywhere not sure if he punched Lampard or not. Meanwhile Eboue cowardly punched Bridge from behind, hope he gets banned for a long time.
Arsenal know how to win but they need to know how to lose with a bit of grace and dignity instead of getting punchy just because they were beaten by a better team.
Senderous may be young but he is rubbish! He played Drogba onside for the first goal then was brushed aside as Drogba majestically powered in a quite magnificent winning goal.

  4. If you watch the beginning, Lampard went to have a go and Cesc pulled him away!

  5. Nobody seems to have picked up on this but towards the end Drogba comes up behind Fabregas and hits him on the back of the head as well as putting his hands round his neck. While it looks like a mild slap, it is raising his hand and therefore should be a red.

Also, there is only one camera angle on the brawl between Lampard/Fabregas and Toure. You can’t see what Lampard does exactly but my point is you can’t make judgements some of it until you see it from all angles.

  6. Arse and Winger have an unparalleled record of failing to exert any control or discipline over their players.

Any other Premiership team would be punished accordingly. However, I’ll bet the FA will do sweet FA about this latest occurrence.

  7. I am a chelsea fan (husband an Arsenal supporter - fun) but do find incidents like this ridiculous. If the 2 players having a tussle were left to the referee to deal with there would be no mass brawl. Once other team members race over, whether to calm down the situation or join in the fight, it then becomes a big problem.

Adebayor did not deserve a red card, Fabregas did, Lampard probably a yellow, Toure def a red and Mikel a yellow. The videos/pictures will give a more accurate account of events than the refs report. Wait and see.

  8. man they are all proffesional players!!! if they dont knw how to behave in a football match then they should not be allowed on to pitch.this is the inspiration that they are giving to youngsters and thats not how it should be. refree was just bein lineant i think.

  9. I definitely agree with tom clancy and scarleto in saying that lamps was trying to have a go at toure and thats why fabregas pulled him away and drogba sneakily slapped fabregas from behind.that said and done toure was clearly in the wrong for attacking mikel.

  10. Okay Razorhead lamps, went over, BUT did he do anything, no not until fabregas came and pulled him harshly away, thats when it got out of hand, lampard didnt start pushing fabregas started being a little twat about the situation. Eboue hit bridge even though it wasnt a hard punch bridge went down but you cant hit people anyway adn eboue the little dick deserves 5 games out, Fabregas a red, and everyone else a yellow, toure reacted to the challange, mikel didnt really do anything there, so toure will prob get a red also.

  11. Arsenal: YOU’RE GONNA WIN NAFF ALL YOU’RE GONNA WIN NAFF ALL!!!!!!!!

  12. To Sparky:

How do you know, it was Eboue who punched Bridge?

I can’t see from this video what happened to Bridge…have you seen other angles?

  13. Funny how no one talks about drogba’s sly lil’ slap on the back of cesc’s head…..

  14. to devo … read scarleto’s comments re drogba and fabregas

  15. That’s a brawl? geez lets watch the girls - at least we can see some hair pulling…

  16. There’s a separate video somewhere that shows the Eboue\Bridge incident. Bridge paws the ball from Eboue, Eboue strikes Bridge on the back of the neck and kicks him in the leg, which Bridge nearly goes down from but regains his balance and appeals to a linesman. Eboue then strikes him again knocking him over and falling on top of him. That’s why Bridge is down and Eboue in trouble,

Adebayor went for clattering Carvalho when he first got there - nothing to do with Bridge.

  17. The separate video of the Eboue\Bridge incident is here:

    http://www.dailymotion.com/FootballHeaven/video/2195331

Eboue kicks and hits Bridge simultaneously, then hits him with his forearm on the back of the head before falling on top of him.

    Eboue’s a go(o)ner. No defence against the FA’s charge.
